4 FINAL EXAM This course is intended to be joined to the exam of:
“Laboratory of production technologies of micro- and nanoparticles”, Dr.Ing. Marco Stoller. Concerning the lab work, the given mark participates at 50% to the final mark, given by Prof. A. Tamburrano, after the exam of his lab course of competence. The mark will be determined by: Participation at the lab sessions (signature) Quality of the report of the performed lab activities Answers to questions on one random topic

5 INTRODUCTION TO LAB WORK
UNIVERSITY OF ROME “LA SAPIENZA” NANOTECHNOLOGIES ENGINEEING INTRODUCTION TO LAB WORK PROF. MARCO STOLLER DEPARTMENT OF CHEMICAL MATERIALS ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING 2ND FLOOR – ROOM 205 TEL: ;

6 Lab Safety Begins Before You Go to the Lab!
Always read through the lab instructions the day before you go to the lab. Ask any questions you may have concerning the lab BEFORE you begin. Follow ALL directions! Ask questions any time you are unsure of what to do.

7 Proper Lab Behavior Never indulge in horseplay or behavior that could lead to injury of others. Never roam freely trough or leave the laboratory with advertising your professor. Horseplay is not tolerated! You will receive a zero for the lab.

8 Dressing for Lab Use goggles, gloves, and lab aprons when instructed to do so. Contact lenses should not be worn in the lab! Due to the dangers of broken glass and corrosive liquid spills in the lab, open sandals or bare feet are not permitted in the lab. Old clothes, covering most possible skin parts is suggested. Dress as directed, or you will not participate.

9 Safe Lab Practices Learn the location and proper usage of the eyewash fountain, fire extinguisher, safety shower, fire alarm box, office intercom button, evacuation routes, clean-up brush and dust pan, glass/chemical disposal can.

10 Safe Lab Practices (cont.)
Never look directly into a test tube. View the contents from the side. Point test tubes that are being heated away from you and others. Never taste any material in the lab. Food, drink and gum are prohibited in lab. Why not gum?

11 Safe Lab Practices (cont.)
Never smell a material in a test tube or flask directly Instead, with your hand, "fan" some of the fumes to your nose carefully.

12 In the Event of a Lab Accident……
Report all accidents regardless of how minor to your professor. For minor skin burns, immediately plunge the burned area into cold water and notify the professor.

13 In the Event of a Lab Accident…… (cont.)
If you get any chemical in your eye, immediately wash the eye with the eye-wash fountain and notify the professor. Immediately notify the professor of any chemical spill and clean up the spill as directed.

14 At the End of Your Lab Time…
Return all lab materials and equipment to their proper places after use. Dispose of all chemicals AS DIRECTED BY YOUR PROFESSOR! Wash and dry all equipment, your lab bench and your clean-up area. All will commonly leave the lab together.
