What is the function of an exciter? Discuss what an exciter does (makes DC that is sent to the generator rotor). It makes DC power instead of AC because DC makes a better magnet, less noise generated, and less heat. Cual es el propósito del sistema de excitación? Cuantos amperios a plena carga?

4 De donde el excitador toma la potencia para crear la corriente CC?
1) Potencia de los terminales del Generador 2) Baterías 3) Una alimentación separada de la Estación de Servicio 4) Un excitador rotativo separado

OC2000 Local Núcleo del Control This handout is used for Ice breaking. It gets a communication between the instructor and the class. Everyone knows the parts and functions so it makes for an easy introduction. Bring out the past experiences of the students Identify major exciter and system components The handout is setup so to follow the sequence of the numbered titles. i.e. Number 1, Ask the class what past problems they have had with Exciters and list on the board. Tailor the questions for their equipment so that they feel the course is for them. Let them tell you what they have. My objective is to make sure nobody calls the rotor the armature. Also you identify if the generator is connected to a breaker or transformer. Have them give you the rated generator voltage. Make sure they understand Watts are from the Turbine and Vars are from the Exciter. Etc. etc. Exciter Overview (MF 01) For EX2000 not EX2000R 1) Have you had any problems with your excitation systems in the past? (List problems on flip chart or board) 2) Delete this question it was asked earlier -What is the purpose of an Exciter?(Provides current to magnetize the generator field) 3) Is the exciter output current DC or AC?(DC) Show polarity on OH 4) Demonstrate current flowing through wire w/eraser and phone cord to create a magnetic field 5) Ask students to identify rotating component?(Rotor) Ask students to identify stationary component?(Stator) 6) Delete this question it was asked earlier - Where does the power come from for excitation, or where does the exciter get the power from?( In most cases the power will come from the generator bus through a PPT. In some cases there is a separate feed to the EX. It is important to identify if the power is on the generator side or bus side of 52G) Draw in PPT  7) Draw in SCR and briefly explain PCM Power Conversion Module. Show AC IN and DC OUT 8) Show field contactor(s) or breaker. Ask the students if this is in EX cabinet or outside, then explain everything in the shaded area is in the EX cabinet 9) Ask students to identify brushes and rings.  10) What controls the amount of excitation?(Regulator) 11) From where does the operator give commands to the regulator?(Generator control panel, MKV, IOS this varies from site to site) MarkVI Remoto
