8 Part One: The Meaning of Happiness

9 The Meaning of Happiness
The English word “Happiness” was originally derived from “Hap” meaning “luck” and related to circumstances turning out well. But, does that origin still reflect that meaning today?

10 The Meaning of Happiness
Words can change meaning to being completely different. “Artificial” today means “fake or contrived.” The original meaning of “Artificial” was artfully and skillfully constructed.

11 The Meaning of Happiness
“Villain” today means an “evildoer.” The original meaning of “Villain” was a “trusted farm worker”. “Manufactured” today means something made “by machines on a large scale”. In old English it Originally meant “something made by hand”.

12 The Meaning of Happiness
The meaning of “Happiness” from Psychology Today “More than simply positive mood, happiness is a state of well-being that encompasses living a good life—that is, with a sense of meaning and deep satisfaction.”

13 The Meaning of Happiness
It no longer carries the meaning of “hap” or luck. Happiness is much more. “Research shows that happiness is not the result of bouncing from one joy to the next;” “Researchers estimate that much of happiness is under personal control.”

14 …But does God want you to be “happy”?

15 Part Two: The God Who Desires Your Happiness!

16 The God Who Desires Your Happiness!
Does God really care about your happiness? Many would respond no. Some religionists might be offended at the suggestion. But, our opinion isn’t the authority. God’s Word is the authority.

17 The God Who Desires Your Happiness!
Consider that our creator made you capable of happiness, joy! Consider that our creator is happy himself! Zephaniah 3:17 The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.”

18 The God Who Desires Your Happiness!
The Word of God frequently talks about a happy life. Yes, God wants you to experience happiness. However, you and I need to understand the difference between short term pleasure and true happiness.

19 The God Who Desires Your Happiness!
God DOES want you to live in a state of well-being that encompasses living a good life. He wants you to have a purpose driven life with a sense of meaning and deep satisfaction.

20 The God Who Desires Your Happiness!
The Bible’s Original Language Greek and Hebrew words for Blessed literally mean “Happy”. In the New Testament, the Greek word μακάριος makarios means “happy” and is often translated as “blessed”.

22 The God Who Desires Your Happiness!
μὰκαρ in classical Greek carries the idea of satisfaction from experiencing the fullness of something. In the N.T. the Beatitudes are really the Be Happy Attitudes!

25 The God Who Desires Your Happiness!
The “blessed God” is μακαρίου Θεοῦ (makariou theou) literally meaning “Happy God.” He is not a grumpy solemn God. The Happy God wants love from a pure heart, from a good conscience and from sincere faith.

26 The God Who Desires Your Happiness!
A Happy Life from the Happy God… Romans 4:8 “Blessed is the man to whom the Lord shall not impute sin.”

“Happy is the person who cleared of their sin.” Sin promises happiness but delivers just the opposite; it mocks true love, sears the conscience and is the fruit of insincere faith. (I Timothy 4:2)

29 The God Who Desires Your Happiness!
Paul is sharing from Psalm 32:1-2 NKJV “Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity,”
