HISD Professional Support & Development This site is designed to support our vision of effective teaching and rigorous learning in every classroom in Houston ISD. Within you will find illustrations and development resources aligned to each of the criteria in our Instructional Rubric. You can also find information and resources on HISD’s Apprasial and Development system, a training calendar listing all professional development to campus staff, and other work of the Professional Support and Development Team.

What We Do! Welcome to Professional Support and Development department! We're working hard to ensure that all HISD teachers have access to a powerful professional development network that meets their individual needs. Over the past year, we've reorganized and developed several key strategies for delivering the kind of relevant and useful support our teacher's need to effectively reach their students.

HISD Professional Support & Development Positioning Statement
Houston ISD Professional Support and Development is the best source of accelerated professional learning and support for teachers on prioritized campuses because we provide: Responsive instructional TDS coaching that includes, observation, goal setting, modeling, practice, and feedback aligned to the HISD Instructional Practice Rubric and the effective implementation of the HISD Curriculum; Support and facilitation of collaborative Professional Learning Communities to build campus capacity. High-quality and ongoing face-to-face, online, and blended learning opportunities for teachers that result in immediate and practical classroom application.

PSD Theory of Change When we coach for and facilitate high-quality professional learning that results in the planning and implementation of rigorous instruction that includes reading, writing, questioning, high expectations, and formative assessment, teacher capacity and student achievement will dramatically increase.

Recently, the district decided to choose The Big Five : these are instructional categories that relate to Rigor and cannot be negotiated in our district. Teachers must implement the Big Five in daily instructional practices. I served on the committee that created the Big Five Hand.

PSD Coaching Model TDS COACHING MODEL
Establish and maintain a positive teacher-coach relationship Collaboratively reflect, debrief, and re-examine goal Conduct a formative observation Facilitate a teacher-coach conversation to identify teacher goal Model and practice the strategy Select an instructional strategy and co-plan Observe and generate rubric-aligned feedback The HISD coaching model is grounded in the research and practice of Jim Knight

HISD Video Exemplars and Effective Practices to Establish Expectations
Short and full- length Video Exemplars featuring HISD Teachers (elementary and secondary versions) Reflection questions that can be used in PLCs, coaching conversations, etc. There are four major categories of content in this site - the Instructional Practice rubric section, everyday excELLence Literacy Routines, online training calendar, and connections to other aspects of the work of the PSD team including Teacher Development Specialists and our Effective Teacher Fellowship (ETF) Alternative Certification Program (ACP) for novice teachers. HISD Professional Support & Development 2013-2014 Goal : Teacher Development Specialist (TDS) Impact
90% of all teachers on prioritized campuses will agree that their TDS serves as a useful resource in their ability to grow as a teacher.

HISD Professional Support & Development 2013-2014 Goal: PSD Training and Resources
85% of users will find the PSD Video Exemplars and Effective Practices highly useful to impact and change teaching practices. 85% of teachers participating in PSD facilitated professional development will find the training meaningful and useful to impact their teaching practices.

HISD Professional Support & Development 2013-2014 Goal: New Teacher Development/Retention
Retain 90% of first year teachers that are rated as Level II or above. 85% of new teachers will respond that their mentor has helped them to effectively improve their instructional skills and teaching strategies. At least 95% of ETF ACP teachers will be certified at the end of their internship year.

HISD Professional Support & Development 2013-2014 Goal: Student Performance Goal
Every prioritized campus served by content TDS will increase student performance as measured by STAAR Stanford/Aprenda. The number of TEA improvement required campuses will be reduced by 50%.

HISD Professional Support & Development 2013-2014 Goal: PSD Staff Satisfaction
Professional Support & Development team members will indicate an overall 90% or better level of satisfaction on the End of Year research-based Gallup all staff survey as an indicator of team orientation and retention.

This last year I have had the opportunity at work to learn and grow. Customer Service (PD Op/Plant Operation) provided professional and efficient communication and support. Furniture requested was available and arranged by the designated time. Technology/Presentation equipment was available in proper condition and quality.
