3 I. Background SVO was established in July 2006 to realize holistic child development to raise a new generation that is productive and future leader of the country. Vision SVO aspires to economically prosperous, secured social welfare with promoted justice and environmentally safe Ethiopia. Mission SVO strives to address economic, social, health, psychological, and emotional needs of children to rise a new generation that curves poverty to prosperity.

4 II. Goals of the ADI Project
To test the effectiveness of algae/duckweed as feed supplement for livestock; and To improve financial outcomes, nutrition and health security, and empowerment of these women and their infants and young children.

5 III. USAID-SVO ADI Project Progress
3.1. Major accomplishments: A. Beneficiary selection Beneficiary selection criteria was discussed, and 1200 beneficiaries were selected collaboratively with: Woreda Livestock Development Offices; Woreda Finance and Economic Development Offices; Kebele level Development Agents, Health Extension Workers; and Project Advisory Committees.

B. SVO Staff Training Georgia Tech and Emory University trained SVO staff on: Database creation Data collection tools Cspro Data Entry tools and data management Duckweed production and management TOT on SHG’s training curriculum Also SVO trained its project staff on: Concept of Self Help Group Poultry management Business plan preparation Income statement and balance sheet preparation

C. Baseline Survey was Conducted Data collection tools (Baseline, Midline, End line, Weekly/Monthly, and Semi-annual Surveys) were developed (SVO + Georgia Tech); Cspro Data Entry tools were developed (SVO + Georgia Tech); Baseline survey was completed, and data submitted to Georgia Tech for analysis; Georgia Tech analyzed and provided the Baseline Report to SVO and SVO reported to USAID.

D. SHGs and Cooperatives Organization 1200 beneficiaries were organized into 60 SHGs and promoted to 60 cooperatives

3.2. Major achievements: 60 SHGs have saved a total of ETB 515, The beneficiary women and their spouses have contributed a total of ETB 579, in the form of labor. The beneficiary women and their spouses have contributed ETB 580, in material. The project has matched ETB 2.7 million Currently, the total balance of each site/satellite SHGs is indicated bellow.
