Achievements Awarded the national book award in fiction in 1953 for his book “invisible man” two years prior to his death, he got awarded a special achievement award, from the anisfield-wolf book award Ralph Ellison had various artistic skills, he was sculptor, musician and photographer, as well as writing al0t essays In 1994 the modern library ranked “invisible man” as nineteenth in the top 100 English- language novels of the 20th century, and calling it “the quintessential American picaresque of the 20th century”
