Introduction -Cloud computing -Cloud education 1
4
What is cloud computing?
Computing on the cloud? “Cloud computing is a model for enabling ubiquitous, convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction.”
5
Features of cloud computing
On-demand Computing Model Organizations are no longer required to own their datacenters to cover their IT needs. Inexpensive Savings results from the fact that resources owned by providers are shared among several clients Scalable Clients are not limited with fixed amounts of resources. Rather, they can scale up or down their usage according to fluctuating needs. Subscription-based Clients subscribe to services they are interested in, and they are billed according to use.
6
Cloud computing in education
Cloud computing applications in the field of education and training Massive open online courses (MOOCs) Traditional education: Students as passive targets Credit driven High tuitions Information asymmetry Fixed time and location
7
Characteristics of Cloud education
The capabilities and resources are available over the network. Online courses always share for each person for free. Open access Users need to go through the security group to complete the user authentication. Key strategies to protect network communication security. Scalability Security Cost-effective On-demand service to schools to provide alternative applications modules the cloud scale can be dynamically scalable to meet the needs of application and user-scale growth. Require few on the client device. schools can greatly save computer hardware purchase and maintenance costs.

10
Physical hardware sub-layers
infrastructure layer IaaS high-level resources such as computing, data storage, and network communications physical hardware sub-layers: physical hardware, including servers, storage, and networking equipment Infrastructure layer Physical hardware sub-layers virtualization sub-layers: composed of various types of virtual machines provides computing, data storage, network communications and other virtual resources Virtual sub-layer

Development environment
Application interface layer Application interface layer Development environment Public API Web services provides development environment and public API provide PaaS use the public API to develop their own Web services.
12
Educational application layer
teaching management for the teaching platform, Educational management system, office systems, assignment systems; the development of teaching resources, document processing software, courseware production presentation software, a virtual computing environment, providing virtual computing resources for the education practitioners and students; a cloud-based virtual computing laboratory.
13
user interface layer the traditional GUI
a supplementary way of the Web interface to log in to the virtual machine on the educational cloud remotely and access the underlying resources. the Web-based interface. With the help of Web 2.0 technology, the cloud education mainly provides B/S structure services, so users only need to use the browser that can access the service.
14
conclusion user interface layer educational application layer
infrastructure layer Foundation; using virtual machine technology to introduce a layer of virtualization between hardware and software. Application interface layer package virtual resources educational application layer uses the API; develop various kinds of software user interface layer all the software runs on the cloud, users simply use ordinary PC and a browser to use all kinds of software

Cloud education 3 In China
16
1 2 3 4 Cloud education in China
Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is the first university in Asia launching MOOC in May 2013 2 "Science, Technology and Chinese Society" 3 More than 17,000 people applying within a month, of which 60% are from other developed countries 4 Chinese University of Hong Kong has also opened MOOC courses.
18
May 2013 July 2013 Oct 2013 Cloud education in China
Tsinghua University and Peking University joined edX .Tsinghua University started research and development work on edX Chinese platform. Jiaotong University and Fudan University came to an agreement with Coursera to provide their special courses. Tsinghua University launched its own MOOC platform named “Xuetang online” which is the first mooc platform built by university in Mainland China.

1 2 3 4 Cloud education in China
Platform internationalization and localization 2 Uses HTML5 video player that does not depend on YouTube 3 Achieved the full-text search function through the platform 4 The functions of the visual formula editor, handwritten Chinese characters and formula recognition, the users’ learning behavior analysis module and the mobile device learning application are partly completed.
21
Future Development 4
22
Challenge High dropout rate
High operating costs (including video production, knowledge network design, Technical platform construction, experienced teachers) No standardized degree certification The lack of immersive class learning experience
23
Future development SPOC Small Private Online Course Limited MOOC
Limited online students selected based on a global access conditions can register the MOOC MOOC+ Classroom SPOC is a combination of MOOC and classroom
24
SPOC Traditional Flip-flop classroom Classroom Home
Do exercises at home Evaluation, feedback, conclusion, discussion Have lecture in class Study MOOC at home
25
Conclusion Cloud education should be the supplement of the classroom teaching but not the replacement Cloud education can provide functions like interactive training, automatic grading, and study record track management. Use big data to analysis some important messages such as learning paths, behavioral patterns, teaching patterns, and error patterns Find out the problems in our teaching and improve the teaching system in time.
