East Java is included in 10 areas with the highest MMR and IMR in Indonesia. Maternal mortality rate in East Java on 2013 adalah 97,39/ live births, and on ,52 / live births.

15. Ironically, the area of highest contributor to maternal mortalality rate is Surabaya with 49 cases of maternal death (East Java Provincial Health Office, 2014).
On 2010, there are 16 cases of maternal mortality in Surabaya, then increased to 47 cases of maternal mortality on 2011 and cases on 2012.
