ME 340: Heat Transfer Project “The H Calculator”
By: Michael Koecher & Tyler Collins
2
Why? We’ve all calculated lots of h values this semester This is convenient for fast error checking
3
MatLab Steps 1) Input: k, alpha, Pr, velocity, viscosity, density, cp.
2) Choose geometry: sphere, external cylinder flow, internal cylinder flow, or flat plate. 3) Beware: equations that use viscosity/viscosity_s use an approximation of 1 4) It outputs the results (Nu and h) to the command prompt.
4
Example 8.37a (Internal Flow)
1. Input data 2. Select Internal Flow 3. Input diameter, length, and select heating
5
Example 8.37a continued The h value calculated (using Dittus) is: The h value calculated (using Sieder) is: The actual value is 9.44
6
Example 7.70a (Sphere) 1. Input data H calculated is: 3651
H actual is: 3639
7
Example 7.70b (Sphere) H calculated is: 23.72 H actual is: 22.1
