Target year 10 and 11 Students Schools in Great Yarmouth Area

Academy caters for up to 10 students per day
Each Class has a half day per week Academy runs 5 days per week Optional Saturday Assistant work Possible Professional Mentoring

Core Curriculum All Students to study at school for a minimum of Five GCSE’s, these to include :- English Language and Literature Science Mathematics Others accordingly to the talents of the student and expertise of the school These subjects are deemed as necessary to compliment this vocational subject, Students also need to come with the recommendation of the school and with a 90%+ attendance pattern.

Aims of Course Improve students aspirations.
Bridge the “skills gap” within our local labour market. Increase the number of Students leaving school with qualifications, including Vocational Qualifications. Provide a progression route to Further/Higher Education and to the workplace. Improve attendance rates and reduce exclusions from Schools

Impact of work-related learning on 14-16 age group:-
Short and long term motivation Improved self-esteem and self-confidence Raised aspirations Increased skills for enterprise and employability Skills for life long learning Relevance of their work in school to the world of work Raised expectations on employees, working practices and environments and rights and responsibilities.

The Programme is designed to introduce:-
Induction Schedule Customer Satisfaction Shampooing Client care Product Knowledge Treatments Health and safety (Including Manual handling) Toning Blow drying

Whilst on this programme students achieve:-
Academic Qualifications via GCSE’s (Via School) Vocational Qualifications Via NVQ (Fusion) accountable on school league tables. Employability skills and Awards via:- Health and safety Life Skills Preparation for employment units 3 & 4 Basic health and hygiene certificate

Schools Role in the programme
Schools role is vital in continuing to help students gain academic qualifications in subjects relevant to all areas of work. Students complete GCSE’s in English, Mathematics and other GCSE’s subjects according to the talents of the student and expertise of the school. Schools help in co-ordination of the whole course as well as providing pastoral care & administrative procedure

Fusions Commitment Provide full training facilities.
Make students aware of the importance of gaining Maths and English for work ready qualifications. Provide mentoring for each student. Provide full NVQ level 2 training. Work closely with Schools, attendance etc. Work closely with colleges for NVQ assessments. Assess students on site with our own assessors. Fully assess all students with a view to full time employment

Students Commitment To attend Fusion on their given day.
Attend for the given hours. Provide own personal equipment. Behave in and adult and responsible way whilst at Fusion. Agree to take part in all training activities. Dress smartly or in Fusion’s uniform style.

Post – 16 Progression Students have the opportunity to start NVQ’s early and to use it as a vehicle through which they can access college and post – 16 apprenticeships. By the end of year 11 students will have the opportunity of :- Maintaining their vocational area and progress further. Transferring to another NVQ Course. Transferring to a modern apprenticeship. Full time employment in the hairdressing industry. Possibly continuing in a full time role with Fusion.
