1 What’s Next? Taking your notecards, outline, and resources to create a research paper.

2 Begin to write Using your outline as a guide, begin to put your research paper together. Make note of comments regarding your title, thesis, and outline. Make sure you support your thesis. Refer to notecards and sources for specifics and page numbers. ALWAYS give credit to the original author!!!

3 Author’s name in textual citations
First reference to the author – use first and last name. Example – 1st reference to the author: John Smith, in his reference to….. Following references to the same author – use ONLY the last name. Example: Smith continues to affirm…..

4 Citation If you refer to the author in your statement, then you only need to give a page number in the parenthetical documentation. Example: Smith, in his studies on cancer survivors, states that forty-three percent of those with stage four cancer who survive more than five years have no recurrence at ten years (387).

5 Citation If you do not refer to the author in your statement, then you need to give author’s last name, & page number in the parenthetical documentation. Example: Research shows that forty-three percent of those with stage four cancer who survive more than five years have no recurrence at ten years (Smith, 387).

6 MLA FORMAT: MLA FORMAT: MLA FORMAT
Double space entire paper! Times New Roman, 12 pitch ONLY NO underlining, italicizing, or bolding of title!! One inch margins all around! Use proper heading!!!! IF YOU STILL DON’T UNDERSTAND HOW TO DO THIS, COME SEE MS. TIGNER BEFORE OR AFTER SCHOOL!!!

7 Proper Heading Student Name Name of Instructor Class and Period – all spelled out European Date Header = Last name and page number

9 Remember!! NEVER use contractions!
NEVER use personal pronouns (I, me, my, you, your, etc.). ALWAYS write out any numbers less than 100. Check your spelling!

10 Paper specifications MUST be at least 3 pages in length
MAY NOT be longer than 5 pages MUST have at least one graphic – that does NOT count in the page count USE MLA format INCLUDE a Works Cited page – which does NOT count as one of the pages.

11 Works Cited Page Follow correct format for Works Cited.
