Strand - Geometry 3. G.1 Identify and describe the following: cube, sphere, prism, pyramid, cone and cylinder Strand- Measurement 3.M.2 Choose and use appropriate units and tool to estimate and measure length, weight, and temperature. Estimate and measure length to a quarter-inch, weight in pounds and temperature in degrees Celsius and Fahrenheit.

21 Materials List 1 index card – 5x8
2 pieces of red construction paper 12X18 1 brown construction paper rectangle 6x2 1 compass Scissors Glue/glue cup glue stick

22 Directions 1. Fold the 2 large pieces of red paper in half “Hot Dog way”.

23 2. Draw a circle with a 2 inch radius on the white index card.
3. Cut out the circle. 4. Fold the circle in half (like a taco) 5. Fold it in half again like a piece of pizza.

24 Open the circle to look like a taco and draw a line 1 ½ inches out from the center of the pizza piece. Trace the opened circle at the top of the orange construction paper. 8. Cut out the circles

25 Draw a dot 1 ½ inches from the top of the green rectangle
Fold on the dot. L Cut 2 “slices” off either side and curl. Fold one circle in half and glue the L to the top of the circle. Pick up 3 circles and fold them in half together into tacos. Stuff into the pattern Cut through all 4 circles on the line Continue until all circles are cut. Slide each cut circle onto the circle with the L.

30 Introducing Mean, Median, Mode

31 Mrs. Mean (The Average Teacher)

32 Middle (Median)

33 Mode (Most favorite)

34 Range (Best-Least)

35 Mean (Average) Add the numbers and divide by the number of numbers

36 Median (Middle) Count from the outside

37 Mode (most frequent)

38 Range (High – Low) 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3, 4, 4-1

39 (Primary Answer Sheet) The answers I received from other people were:
_________________________________ My guess ___________ Mean (average) Range From__________ to_________

40 (Intermediate Answer Sheet) The answers I received from other people were:
1.____________ 2.____________ 3.____________ 4.____________ My guess______ Range_______ Mean _______ Median ______ Mode _______

41 Game Directions Ask four people to read the necklace on your back silently. Each person will tell you his guess. Write the guess on the corresponding line on the answer sheet. After you have received your four answers, remove and read your necklace. Estimate your answer to the question. Write the answer on “My Guess”. Find the Mean, Median and Mode of all the answers INCLUDING YOURS.
