SUBMITTING YOUR READING LOGS:
CHECK YOUR MLA HEADING MAKE SURE YOU HAVE RECORDED THE BOOK’S TITLE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE RECORDED THE AUTHOR’S NAME HOW TO DETERMINE YOUR TOTAL # OF PAGES FOR THE WEEK: 1. WRITE THE PAGE YOU ARE ON TODAY ON THE BLANK AFTER “END PAGE” . 2. SUBTRACT THE PAGE NUMBER YOU FILLED IN AS YOUR “START PAGE” FROM YOUR “END PAGE” NUMBER. 3. THIS WILL GIVE YOU YOUR “TOTAL # OF PAGES FOR THE WEEK”. 4. RECORD YOUR “TOTAL # OF PAGES FOR THE WEEK” IN THE BOX.

HOW TO DETERMINE YOUR TOTAL # OF MINUTES FOR THE WEEK:
1. ADD UP THE MINUTES YOUR RECORDED FOR EACH DAY. 2. WRITE YOUR TOTAL MINUTES IN THE BOX LABLED “TOTAL # OF MINUTES FOR THE WEEK”. IF YOU HAVE READ FROM TWO INDEPENDENT BOOKS THIS WEEK, WRITE THE 2ND BOOK TITLE AND AUTHOR’S NAME ON THE BACK SIDE OF YOUR READING LOG. DETERMINE PAGES READ IN BOTH BOOKS AND ADD THE NUMBER OF PAGES TOGETHER. THIS WILL GIVE YOU YOUR “TOTAL # OF PAGES FOR THE WEEK.” ADD THE MINUTES FROM BOTH BOOKS TOGETHER AND WRITE YOUR ANSWER IN THE BOX LABLED “TOTAL # OF MINUTES FOR THE WEEK”.

WHEN I CALL YOUR NAME, YOU MAY ANSWER ONE OF THREE WAYS
TELL ME YOUR TOTAL MINUTES ONLY. TELL ME THAT YOU DO NOT HAVE YOUR READING LOG TO HAND IN. CLAIM “RIGHT TO PRIVACY”. THEN AFTER EVERYONE ELSE IS DONE, YOU WILL NEED SHOW ME YOUR SCORE BEFORE YOU PUT YOUR READING LOG IN THE BASKET. WARNING: IF YOU CLAIM “RIGHT TO PRIVACY” AND DON’T COME TELL ME YOUR SCORE, I WILL NAVE NOTHING TO RECORD AND IT WILL BE ENTERED AS MISSING; A ZERO. AFTER YOU HAVE ANSWERED OR SHOWN ME YOUR READING LOG, PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR READING LOG TO THE APPROPRIATE BASKET. I WILL CHECK THEM LATER.

SUBMITTING YOUR “QUOTE OF ARMS”
When I call your name, you must tell me the answer to 2 questions: Is your shield completed or incomplete? Is your paragraph complete or incomplete? 2. Then staple your assignment together top: your shield your final draft any rough drafts or pre-write you completed. Submit your assignment to the basket. if you submitted your Quote of Arms to the basket yesterday, Today you will just need to answer the questions.

SUBMITTING YOUR “QUOTE OF ARMS”
Write your complete and correct heading on the QUOTE OF ARMS scoring sheet. Notice that the points I will be checking off as I score your Quote of Arms shield are copied from your assignment sheet. So if you followed the assignment sheet, you should have a great grade. The grade for your shield will be entered into the reading gradebook. The grade for your motto and paragraph paper will be entered into the writing gradebook.

WRITING CBM You will have 5 minutes to respond to the following prompt in writing. During the first minutes please read the prompt and think about what you might write. Do not write anything during the first minute. Use the next 4 minutes to respond to the following prompt on your paper. Leave your pen on your desk until I ask you to start writing. WRITE ABOUT A PERSON WHO HAS HAD A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON YOUR LIFE.

CBM PART II A READING FLUENCY ASSESSMENT
It measures your current READING FLUENCY (SPEED + CORRECTNESS) It is not entered as a grade You need to do your best

As soon as you receive your Reading Fluency Assessment sheet:
write your FIRST AND LAST NAME and the DATE on the lines at the top. read through the instructions read aloud silently (say the words but without air) while Mrs. Saunders reads the passage out loud. Mrs. Saunders will assign partners. choose which of you will read first. Swap Reading Fluency Assessments Write your name on the back of your partner’s assessment sheet. Reader #1 will read from the “Student Copy” Mrs. Saunders will say “ready, start” and time you for 1 minute.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE READER
The reader should read the copy through quietly, just loud enough for your partner to hear. If you make a mistake, stop and reread it correctly. Don’t rush too quickly, but do your best to read fluently. When I say “Stop” finish the sentence you are on and then stop. INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE LISTENER Listen closely to your partner as they read. If they make a mistake and DO NOT correct themselves, draw a line through the word. If they leave a word out, draw a line through that word. DO NOT mark on the paper if they correct the mistake before going on. Draw a bracket ] after the last word read when I call “stop”

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SCORING
Count the total number of words read (use the numbers in the right margin to help you). Write that total number of words read in the space provided at the bottom of the paper. Count the number of words read incorrectly (the marks made) and write that in the space provided at the bottom. SUBTRACT the number of incorrect words from the total number of words read to calculate the CORRECT WORDS PER MINUTE (CWPM) and write the final score in the space provided at the bottom of the page. SWAP ROLES…THE LISTENER BECOMES THE READER AND NEEDS THE “STUDENT COPY” THE READER NEEDS TO WRITE THEIR NAME ON THE BACK OF THEIR PARTNERS ASSESSMENT SHEET.
