Meeting Purpose To provide information to the Citizens of La Center on the Cowlitz Tribe’s offer of mitigation for tribal development at the I-5 Interchange.

Mitigation Milestones
February 26, 2006—Cowlitz Indian Tribal Chairman, John Barnett, presented a proposed MOU to mitigate potential impacts on the City of La Center gambling tax revenues. Spring, 2007—The Cowlitz Tribe offered to fund a major portion of the City of La Center’s sewer improvements. July 14, 2008—Cowlitz Indian Tribal Chair, Bill Iyall, reconfirms the Tribe’s commitment to mitigate lost taxes and contribute to sewer improvements. July 14, 2009—Expiration of Tribal Ordinance No , “Provision of Certain Mitigation for the City of La Center Related to the Construction and Operation of the Cowlitz Indian Tribe Gaming Facility”.

Staff Recommendation The City Council respond to Cowlitz Tribal Leadership and begin meaningful dialogue related to the mitigation of impacts to the City of La Center of a tribal development in La Center’s Urban Growth Boundary.
