What are their job descriptions and areas of work?
Leaders are responsible for keeping the purpose of their organization first by serving others and recognizing the qualities that bring the best out in people (Myatt, 2012). “Leadership is the professed desire and commitment to serve others by subordinating personal interests to the needs of those being led through effectively demonstrating the character, experience, humility, wisdom and discernment necessary to create the trust & influence to cause the right things, to happen for the right reasons, at the right times.”

What are the responsibilities of these folks?
Personnel Management Human Resources the sports manager is responsible for hiring and firing athletes. (Thompson) works with other staff members to draw up contracts for each athlete and negotiates with athletes to reach a contract agreement. (Thompson) At the college level, a sports manager works with a recruiting team to check out high school talent and bring in the best athletes for that school's programs. (Thompson) The sports manager uses scholarships and other perks to bring in the best talent to his school. Sports managers act as sports agents for individual athletes, helping them negotiate contracts with teams. (Thompson) Management For professional teams, sports managers work with coaches and trainers to be sure each athlete has the training resources he needs to be the best at his position. (Thompson) work for colleges and high schools as athletic directors, managing all the aspects of that school's athletic program. (Thompson) A sports manager can also act as a facility manager, overseeing the sports facility, hiring food and service staff, developing game schedules and overseeing the facility's maintenance. (Thompson) What are the responsibilities of these folks?

What are you key findings?
There are practices, identified by Forbes, that are considered best practices in developing effective employees. The sports industry is bringing in a lot of business that is concerned more and more about building positive relationships. Design economic incentives so employees at all levels of an organization can benefit from them; payouts reflect clearly defined revenue and/or earnings targets. (Lipman, 2013) Provide meaningful feedback in a constructive manner on a regular basis; the ability to provide regular, helpful feedback to employees in a manner that encourages, not discourages, is a cornerstone of effective management. (Lipman, 2013) Respect employees as individuals, in addition to the job they do (Lipman, 2013); build up the people you work with by giving them positive affirmations. Be sure management at all levels of an organization receives adequate training. (Lipman, 2013) Provide support for employees when it’s genuinely needed (Lipman, 2013); leaders need to recognize their employees’ value and respect their needs. Don’t be emotionally stingy (Lipman, 2013); give credit where credit is due. Ensure senior leadership models behavior that makes the rank-and- file proud to be part of the team (Lipman, 2013); make everyone feel include in the process of setting and attaining goals.
