After we exchange Valentines on the 14th we will be having an ice cream float party with Mrs. Bybee’s class!!! Please let me know if you need assistance with Valentine cards for your child. What’s Happing in Second Grade Wow! I can’t believe next week your second grader will be 100 days smarter!!! We are going to have a rockin’ day to celebrate our great achievements. Students are making such great gains and I am so proud of them. In January, we celebrated Martin Luther King’s birthday by writing our own dreams for the world. We also had fun learning the food groups and all of the healthy foods that fit into each group. If you need help with dinner, they are great at making balanced meals. In February we will really be focusing on becoming more independent and pushing ourselves to go above and beyond the given assignment. Your second grader will be doing a lot of writing, and I will be motivating them to write more and more each day. I will also be challenging the students to try more difficult things in their academics. They are closer to being 3rd graders than they are 2nd graders! February also brings fun projects for Valentine’s Day and President’s Day. Please note that the curricula in the third quarter of second grade is becoming very difficult and challenging for all students. Writing and Reading At Home A great way to practice writing at home is to develop a communication journal with your child. Have them write (at least 5 sentences) to you in a notebook each day and then you can write back! It’s super fun and your child will love it! Don’t forget to make sure they are using capitals and punctuation!!! Thanks for all of the wonderful support at home! Don’t forget, reading will also earn your child a pizza through the Book-It Program!
