13 What is NAPLAN? The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual national assessment for all students in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9. All students in these year levels are expected to participate in tests in reading, writing, language conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy. NB

14 NAPLAN NAPLAN is the measure an individual student’s literacy and numeracy skills. The tests provide parents and schools with an understanding of how individual students are performing at the time of the tests. They also provide schools, states and territories with information about how education programs are working and which areas need to be prioritised for improvement. 9-19 May 2017 (on line)

15 What is OLNA? Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment.
If students have not demonstrated their Literacy and Numeracy through NAPLAN (Band 8, Reading, Writing and Numeracy), they have opportunities to sit the assessment, once in Semester One, and once in Semester Two. Should students not meet the OLNA requirements, they will need to enrol in a Foundations Course for Year 11 and 12 (or until literacy and numeracy levels are achieved).

Generation Z (iGen or Plurals) Born ~2000s to Our Year 9s Generation Y (Millennials) Born early 1980s to the early 2000s. Our Year 12s and a few of us. Generation X (Gen X) Born early ~1960s to early 1980s after the Post WWII baby boom. Many of us. Baby boomers Born during the post–WWII baby boom 1946 and 1961/4. 20 The 21st Century Career development is the process of managing your life, learning and work over your lifetime. Career refers to all your life roles including paid and unpaid work that you undertake throughout your life. Occupation (your preferred job/career) refers to a group of similar jobs found in different industries or organisations. Conversations: “What occupations are you currently interested?” “What are your three currently preferred occupations?” “What three interests do you have that could combine to future jobs?”

21 Career Decision Making-Matching
Effective career decision-making: a lot of work and energy. Aiming to maximize the likelihood of being satisfied with our 1st occupation choice. People tend to spend a lot of time deciding where they will live, what car they will buy, or where they will holiday... Determining what career/occupation best fits us in terms of our values, interests, preferences, and skills (VIPS). Personality- what words describe you? How do others describe you? Currency – information must be current and reliable from trusted sources.
