: Spanish 1 & 2, ASL 2 : Spanish 1, 2, & 3(SPAN 103) : Spanish 1, 2, 3, & 4(SPAN 113)

5 What You Need: The approval of your principal to at least try
(12 minimum) An ‘in’ with whoever puts together registration materials My trusty ‘college language requirements’ list

6 What You Do: Get your principal’s approval to try
Review (and change!) registration materials Share “College Language Requirements” with students

Last year added SPAN 103 (3rd quarter Spanish grammar) as 3rd year – 6 students purchased credits This year added SPAN 113 (1st year college supplementary language and culture) as 3rd AND 4th year We use EWU, but other colleges including SFCC and CWU offer this as an option.

16 What You Need: $65/credit 5 credits per class

Make contact with World Language University Apply – (New teachers require Advanced-low skills or higher) Register students– 2 forms Teach (books, students pay directly) Submit grades– end

: tested 2 students (Spanish) : tested 5 students (Spanish & German) : plans to test 5-8 students (Spanish & Russian) Used for Competency Credits & Seal of Biliteracy

21 What You Do Identify “guinea pigs”
Get permission from Principal and substitute (first year I volunteered my time at night) Set up test day/time Find & test computers/headsets Contact WAFLT (Bridget) to order test codes Collect payments, proctor, submit payments Receive scores from WAFLT

23 Competency Credits Allow students to receive up to 4 High School credits (in WA state) : 2 students, 7 credits : 4 students, 16 credits Proficiency (lowest scoring area) Credits earned Novice Mid 1 Novice High 2 Intermediate Low 3 Intermediate Mid 4

24 What You Need: 1 2 3 School Board Policy

25 What You Do: Ask Principal to present policy to school board for consideration (go with him/her!) Ask Principal to notify you when policy is passed Test students Give results to recording secretary for input into CEDARS Inform students that credits have been posted to their transcripts

27 Seal of Biliteracy Seal for diploma, medal for graduation, notation on transcript : 2 students (Spanish) : 2 students (Spanish) : 1 student (German)

Ask Principal to notify you when policy is passed Test students Give list of students who qualify in language other than English to recording secretary, to post when they meet their English requirements as seniors Order embosser, seals, medals and ribbons Emboss seals Present medals to students, put seals on diplomas.

32 Seals– the cheap way Buy some seals (no more than 10, please)
Put them and a self-addressed, stamped envelope in a bigger envelope, and mail it to: Caitlin Tumlinson – Spanish 5909 HWY 291 Nine Mile Falls, WA 99026 I’ll emboss and send them back!
