USC Activities Towards MVDC

Overview Use a combination of simulation and hardware to develop, study, and prove out methods for Agent-moderated power control for MVDC systems Converter-based circuit protection and power routing Stability and control of two-shaft high-speed turbine generator/rectifier supplying power to dc bus, including paralleling, splitting, start-up, shut-down scenarios Characterizing and controlling power quality in a dc environment Design and control of dc/dc converters incorporating hf isolation transformers Effectively integrating distributed energy storage with methods for fault protection, power quality, and agent-based power routing Provide hardware modules that can be integrated into CAPS test bed and NSWC IFTP system 4/13/2018

Hardware Strategy USC hardware facility is being built around network of five AMSC PM1000 power modules Power modules use versatile controllers “ginn’ed up” at MSU that serve as test beds for agent-moderated power control and for dynamic reprogramming of power modules Hardware integrates with VTB Pro RT as a means for PHIL experiments, programming the PEBBs to represent arbitrary collections of load equipment Intelligent load (or source) zone(s) will be developed to be inserted into MVDC context at CAPS laboratory, and/or on IFTP at NSWC 4/13/2018

USC simulation facility is primarily based on VTB Pro
Simulation Strategy USC simulation facility is primarily based on VTB Pro Permits execution of control agents within the simulation context Real time environment based on automatic code generation from simulation model (and soft RT in Windows environment) Power controller programming is also based on automatic code generation from simulation model Working towards HPC based on cluster computing, using several protocols for decoupling of power network and several protocols for communication between processors 4/13/2018
