1 DIRECTIONS FOR THIS LAB: You are to work in groups of three or four students. You will dissect according to the handout. This is a documentation of your work. As you go along, you will photograph relevant sections with the structures labeled and create a Power Point slide show by inserting your photos into this show. You need to use your flower pins to designate specific structures. The flower pins are in 5 different colors: green, yellow, orange, white, blue. Use these colors as a key on the Power Point slide you are creating. Students must follow the colors that are assigned for each structure. GOAL: Try to identify ALL structures shown in my pics. Sometimes, due to cutting errors, it is not possible to show everything. Do your best and enjoy the learning process. Please share your finished product with You may delete this slide when you are done!

2 SHEEP BRAIN DISSECTION
H PHYSIOLOGY YOUR NAMES

3 Human Brain – Ventral View

4 Human Brain – Ventral View
STUDENT PHOTOS Insert your labeled picture here FIND A PICTURE OF THE SHEEP BRAIN ON THE INTERNET THAT LABELS THE CRANIAL NERVES AND INSERT THAT PICTURE ON THIS SLIDE

5 12 Cranial nerves and their functions:
List the 12 cranial nerves and their functions – I have listed the Roman Numerals. Next to each one, write the name of the nerve and then state the function. USE TWO OR MORE SLIDES. I – II III IV V VI VII VIII IX X XI

6 Sheep Brain – dorsal View
STUDENT PHOTOS Insert your labeled picture here Remove the dura, if present. Insert a photo of your sheep brain prior to dissection and insert It into this space. Label: longitudinal fissure, Cerebrum, cerebellum, Spinal cord, gyri, sulci (note them, but do not label)

7 Sheep Brain – ventral View
STUDENT PHOTOS Insert your labeled picture here Label olfactory bulb, optic nerve (II) = yellow infundibulum = orange mammillary body = white Cerebral peduncle. (Mammilary body should be white)

8 Sheep Brain – ventral View
STUDENT PHOTOS Insert your labeled picture here Label: pons, Trigeminal nerve (V), Abducens Nerve (VI), Medulla oblongata

9 Sheep Brain – ventral View
List and state the functions of the terms you used on the previous slide. Olfactory bulb, optic nerve (II), infundibulum, mammillary body Cerebral peduncle, pons, Trigeminal nerve (V), Abducens Nerve (VI), Medulla oblongata

10 Dorsal midbrain structures
Insert your labeled picture here Expose the dorsal midbrain structures According to the lab manual. Photograph and label: Occipital lobe of Cerebral hemisphere, pineal gland, superior Colliculi of corpora quadrigemina, inferior Colliculi of corpora quadrigemina, cerebellum Inferior Colliculi of corpora quadrigemina is white

11 Dorsal midbrain structures
State the functions of Occipital lobe of Cerebral hemisphere, pineal gland, superior Colliculi of corpora quadrigemina, infereior Colliculi of corpora quadrigemina, cerebellum

12 Sagittal Section of sheep brain
Photograph and insert Your sagittal section Label: optic chiasma, cerebral peduncle, Thalamus, Fornix = white frontal lobe, Insert your labeled picture here

13 Sagittal Section of sheep brain
Photograph and insert Your sagittal section Label: Corpus Callosum, Cerebral hemisphere, Parietal lobe, cerebellum, Pineal Gland. Insert your labeled picture here

14 Sagittal Section of sheep brain
Insert your labeled picture here Photograph and insert Your sagittal section Label: Arbor vitae, Corpora quadrigemina, = yellow Fourth ventricle = orange Medulla oblongata = white Pons = blue

15 Sagittal Section of sheep brain
State the functions: optic chiasma, cerebral peduncle, Thalamus, fornix, frontal lobe, corpus Callosum, cerebral hemisphere, Parietal lobe, cerebellum, pineal Gland, arbor vitae, corpora quadrigemina, Fourth ventricle Medulla oblongata pons Use additional slides if necessary
