Cloud Program Objectives
12/1/16 Cloud Program Objectives Reduce costs by closing expensive on-premises data center and lowering the cost per unit of compute Improve IT service delivery by providing new cloud based services that deliver security and value to the University Create a coherent University cloud presence by using standard architectures, common contracts, and providing expert direction (2 minutes)

Working Together In April 2017, a cross University Cloud Special Interest Group was established to share knowledge and best practices on cloud adoption. Participants include: Campus Services Usman Mutawakil Harvard Divinity School Susan Worst Harvard Medical School Paul Williams Choon Wei Ooi Eric Ordoukganian Graduate School of Design Mark Hagen Hal Gould Harvard University Health Services David Naimark Harvard School of Public Health Deane Eastwood Kevin Wnek Matthew Ronn Harvard University Information Technology Erica Brashaw Ann Lurie Steve Martino Ben Rota Noah Selsby Thomas Vachon Jane Hill Evgeny Platanov Graduate School of Education Priya Vetrimani School of Engineering Arts and Sciences Judit Flo Gaya John Fisher Rebecca Loose Faraz Sadek Harvard Business School Ryan Frazier (HBX) Christopher Pringle David Goodrich Gary Wallace Hassiba Katia Muser Harvard Kennedy School Shawn Conway Steven Duncan Ty J Smith

4/20/17 Status We’ve made considerable progress against our objectives and have identified critical lessons learned: MIGRATION Accomplishments: Challenges: PeopleSoft and Oracle Financials in the cloud Current migration velocity slow Move from re-platforming to a“lift & shift” migration model and engage additional resources to mitigate timeline risk “Cloud First” policy with ~200 applications migrated STANDARDIZATION Accomplishments: Challenges: Implementation and operational planning is behind Develop smaller MVP and plan for tool establishment beyond HUIT Produced cloud reference architecture to inform migrations Identified common enterprise tools for HUIT to enable cloud adoption 5
6
12/1/16 Standardization Cloud Reference Architecture has been created to help guide architectural and procurement decisions around common tools & patterns. Prioritize key decisions Reduce duplicate efforts Automate only what’s necessary for migrations

4/20/17 Status (cont.) We’ve made considerable progress against our objectives and have identified critical lessons learned: TRANSFORMATION Accomplishments: Challenges: Skill development continues to be a challenge Hiring additional positions in progress; allow staff to learn via “hands on” migrations over classroom training accelerate skill building Created cross functional portfolio teams to support migration and operations SERVICES Accomplishments: Challenges: Services definitions need to include School perspective Continue to partner with Schools, ITSM, and PMO needed to inform service definition and planning. Strategy Design Transition Launch Envisioned new cloud service offerings Implemented base redundancy and availability for cloud DR 7
