OmegaGenics Mega 10 Targeted Enhanced Support
OmegaGenics Mega 10 delivers a powerful combination of purified omega-7 and omega-3 fatty acids to provide targeted support for cardiovascular health Omega-7 palmitoleic acid helps reduce blood levels of C-reactive protein, an inflammatory marker protein Omega-3 EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and Omega-3 DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) help reduce serum triglycerides

3) Omega-7 fatty acids and palmitoleic acid

Palmitoleic acid is a monounsaturated omega-7 fatty acid in Mega10
H O OH Monounsaturated fatty acid C16:1 ω -7 omega carbon Palmitic Acid There are three fatty acids which are particularly important in the formula for Mega10. The first of these is palmitoleic acid. Palmitoleic acid is a monounsaturated fatty acid, meaning it has one double bond. It is also an omega-7 fatty acid, meaning that the first double bond occurs on the 7th carbon counting from the omega carbon. Palmitoleic acid is different from palmitic acid, which has the same number of carbons in its hydrocarbon chain (16 in total) but has no double bond, making it a saturated fat. The double bond in palmitoleic acid makes all the difference, and leads to these two fatty acids having different functions in the body. C H O OH Saturated fatty acid C16:0

Why the need to supplement with palmitoleic acid?
Few foods contain omega-7 fatty acids and these are not consumed in large quantities in typical diets Palmitoleic acid containing foods may also contain other fatty acids such as palmitic acid, a saturated fatty acid So why should we supplement with palmitoleic acid? Firstly, few foods contain meaningful amounts of palmitoleic acid Secondly, many foods that do contain palmitoleic acid also contain the saturated fat palmitic acid Thirdly, in clinical trials, direct supplementation with palmitoleic acid has been shown to improve cardiovascular risk markers Supplementing directly with palmitoleic acid can reduce cardiovascular risk factors

What is palmitoleic acid?
Palmitoleic acid is an omega-7 mono unsaturated fatty acid. Very few foods naturally provide significant amounts of palmitoleic acid. Primary sources include plant oils and fish oils.1 In fact, it was first identified after isolation from herring and cod liver oils in Table 1. Common Food Sources of Palmitoleic Acid1 Dietary Source Palmitoleic Acid (g/100 g of Fatty Acids) Macadamia nut oil 17.3% Cod liver oil 7.1% Salmon 6.0% Olive oil 1.4% Eggs 0.3% Soybean oil 0.08% Link image of report to: Clinical Application of Omega-7 & Omega-3 Fatty Acids in Cardiovascular Health (make sure most recent version) Link reference 1 to: Link reference 2 to: Mega 10 omega-7 palmitoleic source is from anchovies. Palmitoleic acid has heart health benefits
Clinical data shows that supplementation with palmitoleic acid has beneficial effect on cardiovascular risk markers HDL Palmitoleic acid supplementation Moving on to the cardiovascular benefits of the principal fatty acids in the Mega10 formula. Supplementation with palmitoleic acid has been shown to improve several cardiovascular risk factors in human clinical studies. Supplementation led to reductions in plasma hsCRP, and the Mega10 claim for hsCRP reduction is as a result of palmitoleic acid in the formula. Other beneficial effects of supplementation were a reduction in plasma triglycerides, a reduction in LDL cholesterol, and an increase in HDL cholesterol. CRP TG LDL Bernstein et al. J Clin Lipidol. 2014;8(6):612-7

Clinical Study on Omega 7 Palmitoleic Acid
Double-blind randomized, placebo-controlled study with 60 subjects Subjects with elevated CRP (2-5mg/L) and dyslipidemia (n=60) Baseline blood samples: CRP and plasma lipids randomized 220.5mg palmitoleic acid (n = 30) Placebo Control (n = 30) Link reference to Bernstein paper on iPads Also… weblink is – currently free online: 30 days Follow-up blood samples: hsCRP and plasma lipids Bernstein AM, Roizen MF, Martinez L, (2014) Clin Lipidol. 8(6):612-7.

Health Benefits of Omega-3s
Widely studied with over 20,000 published scientific papers that support health benefits Fish Oil, a good source of Omega-3, helps support cardiovascular health Omega-3 EPA & DHA helps reduce serum triglyceride levels Triglycerides Balk E, Chung M, Lichtenstein A, et al.
