1 Interpersonal Communication
A model to demonstrate how meaning is created between people By Eileen Scheckle PE Technikon

2 Introduction Humans are unique in their ability to communicate. This communication has developed to very refined and subtle levels. To understand these subtleties it is necessary to examine the following model.

3 (which carries the message)
The communication process includes a number of elements... Message Encoding Decoding Medium (which carries the message) Sender Audience Feedback

4 The elements in the process are
sender - a person who has an idea to communicate encoding - changing an idea into a concrete and accessible form message - the content to be conveyed

5 And, decoding - making sense of the message
audience - the receiver of the message feedback - any response or reaction to the message

6 which could take the form of
And, television radio letters posters the medium which could take the form of reports face to face and, computers

7 the successful encoding and decoding of the message.
Communication depends on the successful encoding and decoding of the message. For example I like fish

8 live fish swimming in the sea,
could mean, live fish swimming in the sea, or, MENU a sea-food menu.

9 So, before communicating, stop and consider,
who is the audience? what code will the audience understand? what is the most appropriate medium to use?

10 you’re ready to go and communicate effectively and efficiently.
Once you have answered these questions, then... you’re ready to go and communicate effectively and efficiently.
