5 Rail Safety Week 2017 & Education
25th September – 1st October The aim….. Rail Safety week aims to address, engage, promote, and bring rail safety to the forefront on people’s minds across a dedicated week. How could you be involved? How does this help with developing links with schools?

6 LOTC Quality Badge How can Community Rail serve Education?
The LOtC Quality Badge provides a national award combining the essential elements of provision - learning and safety - into ONE easily recognisable and trusted accreditation scheme for ALL types of learning outside the classroom provider throughout the UK. The LOtC Quality Badge means that the holder has passed a robust assessment designed to ensure that they are meeting schools' learning and risk management needs, no matter what activities they offer. 

7 LOTC Quality Badge In order to achieve an LOtC Quality Badge, providers must show that they meet a set of quality indicators. They are: The provider has a process in place to assist users to plan the learning  experience effectively; The provider provides accurate information about its offer; The provider provides activities or experiences which meet learner needs; The provider reviews the experience and acts upon feedback; The provider meets the needs of users; and The provider has safety management processes in place to manage risk effectively. The quality indicators will be the same for all types of learning outside the classroom provider. They are tailored to whether a provider has staff to work with users or not. The indicators are process-orientated (i.e. the way in which the provider works with the user to plan the experience and set learning objectives) and do not attempt to assess learning outcomes directly, as these remain the responsibility of the teacher or group leader. £125 for a two year validity period

9 Engaging with Schools Process – Where do we begin?
Initial contact – contact the school and ask to speak with the headteacher or send letters out. School information can be found on council websites: Follow up the initial contact – go into school to showcase work and explain programme. Organise a date with the school for a trip – make sure teacher’s requirements are understood and send any pre-visit activities and documents. Carry out the school trip ask for feedback and future bookings, also ask the school to ‘spread the word’.
