1. Pencils come with different hardness's
Pencils come with different hardness's. These are used for different jobs. Soft (B) pencils are used for shading Hard (H) pencils are used for technical drawings where you DON’T want the lines to be seen
You can find out how hard or soft a pencil is by the number by the base

3. Paper can be brought in different weights and sizes
Paper can be brought in different weights and sizes. It is important to select the right size to minimise waste and the right weight for you project. For example invitations to the Oscars are printed on linen paper weighing 120gsm

4. Different glues can be sued for different jobs- Glue sticks are used to join light weight paper. Spray adhesives such as Photo Mount can hold heavier weight papers

5. Registration marks print outside the trim area of printing
Registration marks print outside the trim area of printing. These marks allow the printer to accurately align separate letterpress plates for multiple color print jobs and better align cuts when trimming.

6. Orthographic Projection – this style of drawing is used to display all the information needed for construction of a project. For example a designer will produce an orthographic projection of a door handle and send the drawing to the workshop to be produced by the machinist.
We usually use 3rd Angle Projections.
Start with the front view – make sure you are accurate!
Then draw the side view – you can LIGHTLY draw lines across (called construction lines) to help you

7. Then draw the plan view – use the construction lines again – bring them up from the front view and up and across from the side view.
Go over the out line of your product. If your construction lines are light enough you don’t need to rub them out!
This is the symbol used to show you are drawing a 3rd angle orthographic projection

8. Isometric is a nice way to present a 3D image of your product
Isometric is a nice way to present a 3D image of your product. It means that all of the horizontal lines should be at 30o Use a Set Square to help you
If you want to practice doing this free hand start with an arrow like this
Then draw one side of a box
Then the other
Finally put on the top – you can now draw anything else inside this crate. Just watch those angles!

9. 1,2 or 3 point perspectives are another way to present a 3D image
1,2 or 3 point perspectives are another way to present a 3D image. These can look very impresive!
Simply mark 1,2 or 3 points on a page then all your horizontal or vertical lines go to the point!
It is usual to do horizontal lines only for 1 or 2 point perspectives
3 point perspective included vertical lines as well
