Communication is the process of sending and receiving messages.
What is communication? Communication is the process of sending and receiving messages. INTERpersonal communication happens with 2+ people Can’t “communicate with others” without the ‘others’ part Communication is a process….has its own model to go with it.

SENDER Sender: the person who sends the message. They want the information to go out to other people

BUT WAIT!!! What is the sender, sending? Message: the information to be conveyed The message needs to be encoded as well. Encoding: transforming your thoughts of the information to be conveyed into a form that can be sent Sender

Encoded message Let’s say the sender has chosen to use WORDS to convey his message. Words would be the way he “encodes” the message. Now he has to decide what CHANNEL OF COMMUNICATION he is going to use Channel of Communication: the manner in which the message is sent out Channels include: speaking, writing, videos, audio, s/texts/faxes. Can include nonverbal communication also. Sender

Encoded message The message must have someone to be sent to. Receiver: The target of the communication The receiver is responsible for decoding the information Decoding: mentally processing the message into understanding Sender

Encoded message The receiver will provide FEEDBACK. Feedback: a message sent from the receiver to the sender Sender Receiver
