WHAT IS STRESS? It is a condition of feeling exhausted when a person perceives that the demands on his mental, physical and financial capabilities exceeds the personal and the social resources that he is able to mobilize.

STRESS GOOD STRESS / EUSTRESS BAD STRESS / DISTRESS

EUSTRESSIS Motivates, focuses energy and energizes us. Is short term.
Is perceived to be within our coping abilities. Feels exciting. Improves performance.

DISTRESS Causes anxiety or concern. Can be short or long term.
Is perceived to be outside our coping ability. Feels unpleasant. Decreases performance.

Lesson Planning. Accountability for student performance. Classroom management and discipline. Supervisory role. Extracurricular activity conducting and monitoring. Taking work home. Difficult students. Difficult classes.

(Contd..) Lack of administrative support. Pressure from parents. Teachers evaluation. Ongoing learning. Job uncertainty. Integration of intelligence and technology. Change in curriculum. Change in education policy.

TELL-TALE SIGNS OF STRESS
PHYSICAL Headaches, Stomachache, Ulcer, Decreased immune system, Increased risk of heart disease etc. EMOTIONAL / MENTAL Difficulty with concentration, Memory and Inappropriate expression of emotion, Lowered self esteem, Depression, Anger etc.

TIPS TO REDUCE STRESS Learn to plan. Recognize and accept limits.
Talk out your problems. Avoid unnecessary teachers competition. Learn to play a sport. Decide to be positive. Love yourself more than anybody else. Exercise. Change your surrounding.

S T R E Stand back: Remove yourself from the stressful situation
Take a deep breath: Count to 5 and think about the choice that’s best for you R Relax: Do something that relaxes you E Exercise: Get that stressful energy out in a way that works for you Sleep: Take a nap or just rest up for a while Speak: Talk to someone about it and share your emotions
