Spring 2017 Hello everyone, for those of you who don’t know us we are Lesley Hunter and Mark Lumsden, we are your local Cohesion Officers for Chester le Street and part of our role is engagement with the community. We work within the community providing advice, reassurance and guidance to victims of crime, particularly hate crime, as well as attending community events in order to engage with the people. We regularly help vulnerable people within the community and implement crime prevention initiatives. Spring 2017 On 13th February PCSO Lesley Hunter from the Cohesion Unit attended the Alzheimer’s Singing for The Brain group’s Valentine’s Day themed party. Every one sang along to old favourites including Elvis Presley. If you care for someone with Alzheimer’s and would like to join the group call

Spring 2017 Dementia Awareness Week 15th to 20th May As part of Dementia Awareness Week, The Alzheimer’s Society and Beamish Museum have teamed up and are putting on activities all week for all the family. Log on to the Beamish Museum website for more details

Spring 2017 The Herbert Protocol has seen its first success after a man from Pelton who suffers from dementia went missing and was quickly located. PC Steve Brown and PC Dan Beardmore from Pelton Neighbourhood Policing Team were able to quickly obtain personal information about the man, including his picture and the places he was likely to go. Not only were the individual’s family free from stress and trauma, it also saved a huge amount of police time and resources searching for him. The Herbert Protocol is a proactive tool to support vulnerable adults from going missing, but also to provide a systematic and joint community approach to locating them if they do. Spring 2017 If you have been the victim of hate crime please let us know by ringing 101(if you feel you are in danger ring 999 instead) and explain to the call handler that you are ringing to report hate crime. You will be supported and your case will be investigated. There are specific mechanisms built in to our reporting and investigative systems to provide enhanced reassurance to victims of hate crime. You don’t have to be a victim to report hate crime to us. If you see or hear something which you believe to be a hate related action or comment you can still report this to us and it will be treated in the same way as if reported directly by a victim.
