2 Where are we ?

3 Who we are ? One of the major players in the field of remote sensing and Geomatics in Quebec and Canada Academic programs in remote sensing and applied geomatics from Bachelor to Ph.D. level The most important research centre in remote sensing among Canadian universities: Centre d'applications et de recherche en télédétection (CARTEL) Major scientific collaborations at both national and international level since 1985.

4 BRIEF HISTORY 1963 Département de géographie
1988 Géographie et télédétection 2003 Géomatique appliquée 1985 CARTEL

5 VOCATION Develop academic programs:
Bachelor in applied geomatics to environment; Bachelor in environmental studies; Master in geographical sciences; Ph.D. in remote sensing. Develop research programs in remote sensing, applied geomatics, geographical science and environment Promote the use of geospatial technologies

6 PERSONNEL 12 research professors Several adjunct professors
4 professionnals Several postdocs and research assistants

7 Ph.D. Program in Remote Sensing
Created in collaboration with the Department of Electrical Engineering Running since 1990 Over 65 Ph.D. degrees completed About 30 active students 4 concentrations: Physics of remote sensing Image processing Applied geomatics Environment.

8 Ph.D. Program in Remote Sensing
3 seminars in each concentration Doctoral exam Public presentation of research proposal Report on data and preliminary analyses Public presentation of results Thesis defence

9 Master in Geographical Sciences
Master in Geographical Sciences (research): About 30 active students 3 concentrations (remote sensing, geomatics, geography) 5 seminars in each concentration Public presentation of research proposal Public presentation of the results Submission of the master thesis to a jury

10 Master in Geographical Sciences
Master in geographical science (professional): About 20 active students Based on courses, internship and an essay Duration (1,5 to 2 years) Given simultaneously at Sherbrooke and Montreal campuses.

11 Bachelor in Applied Geomatics to Environment
Replace the Bachelor in geography Started in 2003 15 to 35 new students per year Composed of 3 blocs: Fondamental bloc (maths, computer science) Geomatic bloc (remote sensing, GIS, cartography, geopositionning, spatial analysis, …) Thematic bloc (ecology, geography, environment)

12 Bachelor in Applied Geomatics to Environment (BAGE)
Special features: Project-based learning (last two semesters of the program); Cooperative Internship Program Program in collaboration with the Dep. of Biology Year 1 Year 2 Year 3 AUT HIV ÉTÉ Regular  S-1 S-2  - S-3 S-4 - S-5 S-6 Co-op T-1 T-2 T-3 The BAGE is the only Bachelor of its kind in Canada

13 Bachelor in Environmental Studies
New program (started in 2012) Multidisciplinary program Several departments involved (Applied Geomatics, Civil Engineering, Biology…) Offered in regular in co-op mode About 40 new students each year.

14 Perspectives Develop international collaborations
