2 Why Study PE and Sport? As a cultural phenomenon that evokes passion, drives economies, shapes politics, highlights inequalities and contributes to our shared sense of national pride, sport has a rare capacity to touch our lives. Rising levels of obesity and physical inactivity also make sport a major concern for current policy and the use of sport in initiatives such as community development and health promotion campaigns make sport and PE a subject area of great contemporary and vocational relevance. With major sporting events scheduled for the UK in the next few years, never has sport and PE been so important.

4 How is it assessed? One linear subject studied over two years
3 exams at the end of A2 Level 70% Theory split over 3 exams 30% Practical 1 sport and coursework Overall: 70% Theory & 30% Practical

5 How is PE taught? Four theory lessons per week
Range of teaching styles from PowerPoint presentations, group work, class discussions and independent study One practical lesson per week Enabling boys to obtain the highest marks available for their two practical sports

Anatomy and physiology Sports psychology Socio Cultural aspects and influences of sport and PE Exercise physiology Historical components and influences of sport and PE Biomechanics

7 Which A level options does it fit with?
Depends upon what you want to study at university For Sports Science courses Science subjects, e.g. Biology For Natural Science courses Science Subjects inc Geography, Maths For Social Science courses Psychology, Sociology, History

8 What if I want to go to Oxbridge or Med School?
PE can still be a viable option Oxbridge classify it on a list of second class subjects They accept a grade from one of these subjects For Medical Science courses the entry requirements are a minimum of two science courses, so PE is a viable fourth A Level option
