2 Bahir Dar

3 Kebele 13 The NDCC is in a city called Bahir Dar which is situated in the North West of Ethiopia. Bahir Dar has 18 regions called kebeles. The NDCC is in kebele 13. Also in this kebele there is a hospital, 2 hotels, and many restaurants selling shekla tibs, shiro bozena, doro wot, and buna.

4 The City Bahir Dar is very beautiful. It has a large lake called Lake Tana with more than 20 monasteries around it. The Blue Nile flows out of the lake and over Blue Nile Falls. We have a market every day, lots of nice animals, and a sports field.

5 The Centre

6 Garden We have many different kinds of plants and grow various fruits like mangoes, strawberries and bananas. We like to relax on our swing.

7 Library This is our library where there are lots of different books, for example, textbooks, stories, and an English-Amharic dictionary.

8 When we are not at school we come to the centre to learn English.
Outdoor Classroom When we are not at school we come to the centre to learn English. We have recently made papier-mâché lanterns so we can have outdoor lights.

9 Indoor class Sometimes we learn in the classroom inside. We also eat 3 meals per day in this room.

10 Students

11 Children There are 18 students from grade 5 to 8 at the centre and many at university. We learn English together and we have 5 reading groups.

12 Our School We go to Shimbet school which is 5 minutes away on foot. In alternate weeks we go to school in the morning or the afternoon. Our favourite subjects are English and maths. Before and after school we come to the centre to eat, do homework, play games and learn English.

13 Staff

14 Teachers Our English teacher is called Muluembet. She is also the manager of the centre. We also have a volunteer to help us learn. At the moment, the volunteer is called Tom who is from England. Our social worker called Arigawe helps us with our reading.

15 Kitchen Staff We have four cooks who make us breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They make delicious food like injera and shiro wot.
