2. Child Labour
Child labour is work for children that harms them or exploits them in some way (physically, mentally, or morally).
Child labour deprives children of their childhood and the opportunity to attend school.
Child labour can be difficult and demanding, or hazardous and even morally reprehensible.
Child labour is common in developing countries, but some developed countries also have child labourers.

3. What are the causes for Child Labour?
Poverty is the main cause for child labour.
Some children work because their culture believes that work is good for children because it builds character and teaches new skills.
In some cultures, girls are expected to work instead of attending school.
Some children are involved in slavery and are forced to do work.
Limited access to education can be a cause to child labour.

4. Who is doing it and who does it affect?
There are about 168 million child labourers all around the world. Some countries that are involved with child labour are:
- Philippines
- South Asia
- China
- Brazil
- India
- Sudan

6. What organizations are helping?
SCREAM is a project of IPEC, a department of the International Labour Organisation (ILO). The purpose of the ILO is to promote social justice and internationally recognised human and labour rights.
The National Child Labor Committee (NCLC) is a private, non-profit organization founded in 1904 and incorporated by an Act of Congress in 1907.

7. When and why did it start?
Child labour first began in the 1870s and 1880s in the Industrial Revolution.
In the Industrial Revolution, families were forced to work or they wouldn’t survive. Even children had to do hard work.
Immigration only made child labour become even more worse

8. When did child labour become recognized as a world/human rights issue?
Child labour became prohibited in the 20th century
Too many children were deprived of education and about 246 million children were child labourers.
In Bolivia, many children were suffering from malnutrition due to poverty, child labour, inadequate healthcare and lack of education
Canada and other countries recognized child labour as an issue and are helping to stop it.

9. How is Canada helping?
Canada founded the International Labour Organization (ILO).
This organization runs many projects around the world to stop child labour.
This organizations helped remove over 800 children from child labour.
Canada is still trying to help children around the world to be free from child labour.

10. How is the Catholic Church helping?
The Catholic church is teaching adults and children about human rights,
how everybody has the right to education and freedom,
and what everybody could do to help child labourers.
