WIND MITIGATION Add in features to your home to withstand or increase resistance to high winds caused by a major storm or hurricane. Receive substantial credit for outfitting! 15% - 70% of Home Insurance Premiums can be attributed to wind damage risk*. Safety In addition to saving you money, mitigating your home against severe weather can also protect your family in the event of a major storm. Installing hurricane shutters on your windows or hurricane straps on your roof reduces the risk of flying debris penetrating your home and putting your family in danger. In December 2006, the OIR promulgated Rule , which required all property insurers to provide to the OIR, no later than March 1, 2007, higher discounts in their insurance rates for policyholders who have recognized wind loss mitigation devices. According to the OIR, the rule requires insurers to send a list of those discounts with exact dollar savings to all new and renewed policyholders. *Florida Division of Emergency Management
