Phase 1: This is where we are focusing on hearing sounds.
Within the Letters and Sounds document phonics is split up into phases. Phase 1: This is where we are focusing on hearing sounds. Some examples are: going on a sound walk, playing instruments and guessing which one has been played, distinguishing sounds from one another.

Phase 2: This is when we start to teach the initial sounds
Phase 2: This is when we start to teach the initial sounds. We start with s a t p i n because a lot of words can be made from these sounds. Can you think of any 3 letter words that have been made from the sounds s a t p i n ?

We will tell you which sounds we are teaching using the ‘morning whiteboard’. A good way for you to reinforce these sounds at home is by playing i-spy. You could also look for print in the environment.

Fine and gross Motor Control
Ideas for developing fine motor control: Physical equipment outside Junk modelling Cooking Play dough Writing (big) Painting Digging Writing a shopping list or a card but… Any writing has GOT TO BE PURPOSEFUL!
