Who is Extreme Networks??
History of Innovation Founded 1996 20+ year pioneer in networking Industry’s first Gig-E / 10 Gig-E Switch 650 active patents Full spectrum from wired to wireless to SDN 100% insourced service and support Global Strength Revenue: $700M+ 1,670 employees NASDAQ: EXTR HQ in San Jose, CA 20,000 customers 1,500 local technology partners We looked at other providers and what was missing for us was the total solution: wired, wireless, analytics, management… all together and all performing reliably, as promised. That’s absolutely essential and it’s exactly what we get from Extreme. “ Since 1996, Extreme has built a track-record of technical innovation, global strength and customer focus. Today, our 1300 employees and 1500 partners help 20,000 customers across 80 countries reliably connect with their employees, customers and users and drive real and lasting business outcomes. That’s a quick snapshot of us, now let’s talk about you… Doug Macdonald, Manager, Wireless Infrastructure, Henry Ford Health System

Applications Everywhere – Public and Private Cloud
Here is the dilemma How users see applications: How traditional switches see applications: Port 80 Port 443 ©2013 Enterasys Networks, Inc.
4
Business & IT Challenges
- Virtualisation - Consolidation & Convergence - Service Level Agreements - Latency/UserExperience - Security, Compliance & Auditing - Optimization of traffic (Edge, Core, Data Centre & Mobile) - No end to end view of services
5
Total Application Visibility & Control
Provides 100% Application Layer Visibility Scales to millions of flows Classifies traffic at wire speed Application and Network Response Time Measurement Role Based Access to Applications (eg Cloud Services SLA) Bandwidth Usage Monitoring Efficient Troubleshooting

How Does it Work in General?
CoreFlow 2 ASIC collects configurable number of bytes from selected packets in each flow Data sent to Purview Appliance Switch also sends NetFlow data to Purview Appliance Purview Appliance processes both CoreFlow 2 and NetFlow data and makes available NetSight NetSight presents information via OneView AWARD-WINNING SERVICE IN-SOURCED INNOVATIVE TENURED MEMBERS OF YOUR TEAM
7
Physical Topology Core Mirror traffic to Purview Flow Collector
Bi-Directional Communication with NetSight Purview Appliance (Hardware or Virtual) CoreFlow 2 + NetFlow
8
Data Processing Uses a combination of heuristics and application fingerprints Protocol independent fingerprints at L7 (Catches application masquerading, eg SSH over port 80) 1000’s Fingerprints categorised into 25 groups (P2P, Search Engines, Web, VoIP, Databases, Cloud Computing, Core Internet Protocols etc…) Fingerprints expressed in XML (managed via NetSight) Fingerprints are open and customisable (No other vendor allows this!) Addition to basic NetFlow data just for bulk presentation of flows

Measuring user experience
Matt says his the network is slow while doing an online demo…. Purview says it is not However, the application is slow so focus troubleshooting there. © 2011 Extreme Networks, Inc. All rights reserved.

OK – So what does all this buy us?
Basically:- End to End view of all Services (Applications) Network and Application Response Times This then leads to the ability to:- Analyse Business Applications. Validate Software Licensing. Extract Marketing Information. Assess Device Distribution Monitor SLA Agreements Pro-Active Troubleshooting Profile End User Behaviour Enhance Security Monitor Compliance
