The Foyer You need to keep going through the foyer to get to the eye clinic

Reception The receptionist will take my details and give me a card with a letter on

The card has a letter on it and is coloured

I will follow the signs to get to the right waiting area
Some of the wall are the same colour as the card

I will give the card to the nurse when I get there

The waiting room I can sit here

Clock I may have to wait a few minutes

Sight testing room A nurse will test you eyesight in both eyes one at a time

A letter chart If you can read letters you will be tested with this chart, or you can point to the matching letter on a card. If you cannot see all the letter clearly that is OK

An eye cover One of my eyes will be covered during the test so we can check the vision in each eye separately

Waiting room You will need to sit and wait for the next person to see you

The doctor will call your name

You will be asked to go into the clinic room

You will sit in a chair near the doctor and all the equipment
The examination chair You will sit in a chair near the doctor and all the equipment

The questions The doctor will ask you or whoever is with you some questions

You will need to put your chin on the slit lamp

The examination The light will be quite bright you will need to keep you eyes open

Eye drops We might need to put drops in your eyes. If these are going to sting we will tell you, most of the drops we use just feel wet

Pressure test The tip of this device is very blue
You need to keep you eye very still and open It gets very close to your eye

It is easier to see inside your eye if your pupil is very big
Dilating drops It is easier to see inside your eye if your pupil is very big

We put 1 or 2 drops in your eyes

They take 20 minutes to work

You will need to sit in the waiting room

The doctor will call your name to come in

At the end When the doctor has looked at you they will explain what they think is happening. They will might give you a prescription or just talk to you and whoever is with you

The scanner shines small lights at your eye, it does not touch your eye at all
