1 Your appointment at York Eye Clinic

2 York Hospital Entrance

3 The Foyer You need to keep going through the foyer to get to the eye clinic

4 Entrance to the eye clinic

5 Reception The receptionist will take my details and give me a card with a letter on

6 The card has a letter on it and is coloured

7 I will follow the signs to get to the right waiting area
Some of the wall are the same colour as the card

8 I will give the card to the nurse when I get there

9 The waiting room I can sit here

10 Clock I may have to wait a few minutes

11 Sight testing room A nurse will test you eyesight in both eyes one at a time

12 A letter chart If you can read letters you will be tested with this chart, or you can point to the matching letter on a card. If you cannot see all the letter clearly that is OK

13 An eye cover One of my eyes will be covered during the test so we can check the vision in each eye separately

14 Waiting room You will need to sit and wait for the next person to see you

15 The doctor will call your name

16 You will be asked to go into the clinic room

17 You will sit in a chair near the doctor and all the equipment
The examination chair You will sit in a chair near the doctor and all the equipment

18 The questions The doctor will ask you or whoever is with you some questions

19 You will need to put your chin on the slit lamp

20 The examination The light will be quite bright you will need to keep you eyes open

21 This is what an eye looks like on the slit lamp

22 Eye drops We might need to put drops in your eyes. If these are going to sting we will tell you, most of the drops we use just feel wet

23 Pressure test The tip of this device is very blue
You need to keep you eye very still and open It gets very close to your eye

24 It is easier to see inside your eye if your pupil is very big
Dilating drops It is easier to see inside your eye if your pupil is very big

25 We put 1 or 2 drops in your eyes

26 They take 20 minutes to work

27 You will need to sit in the waiting room

28 The doctor will call your name to come in

29 You will need to put you chin on the rest again

30 The doctor will use a special lens

31 The light will shine in your eye

32 This is what the doctor sees
This is the nerve going to someone’s eye

33 At the end When the doctor has looked at you they will explain what they think is happening. They will might give you a prescription or just talk to you and whoever is with you

34 The OCT scanner

35 You put your chin on the rest
The scanner shines small lights at your eye, it does not touch your eye at all

36 You must keep your eye open

37 An OCT picture The picture is colour coded to show the different layers at the back of your eye
