Enters West Point Academy in 1911 Eisenhower wins election 1952, I Like Ike campaign 1900 1910 1920 1930 1940 1890 1969 Graduates from Abilene HS in 1909 Becomes Commander of NATO in Dec. 1950 Sent to Fort Sam to lead one of first US tank units

3 Growing Up Eisenhower was born on October 14th, 1890, after his ancestors immigrated from Germany to Pennsylvania in early 1800’s He was born in Denison Texas, but shortly after his family moved of to Abilene, Kansas where he grew up Dwight liked to play both baseball and football in which he became a star athlete, and also enjoyed hunting and fishing too

4 Why the Military? Eisenhower never showed too much interest in academics but always had an interest in the military After graduating Abilene High School in 1909 Eisenhower didn’t really get going in life at all, working as a refrigerator engineer He was appointed to the Naval Academy of Annapolis after two years but was too old, and that’s when he received an appointment to West Point in 1910 Na

5 West Point, New York Entering West Point Eisenhower didn’t really have any strive of becoming a soldier He went to West Point for reasons of free and higher education Eisenhower was only an average student though, and had to basically give up his studies due to a sports injury Dwight finally graduated in 1915

6 Fort Sam, Huston, Texas Eisenhower was stationed at Fort Sam where he would met his future first lady, Mamie Geneva Doud He eventually was promoted to captain and moved to Camp Colt, Gettysburg There he trained the men on one of America’s first tank units Eisenhower has not yet seen combat, but was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal for his hard work

7 High Ranking Officer Eisenhower had almost every big rank that an officer could have all the way up to the President of the United States Dwight became the Commander of NATO in Dec. of 1950 He had too many positions in the military to even count, all the way up to the President of the United States NATO Picture, 1950

November 4, 1952 – Eisenhower won a decisive victory, taking over 55% of the popular vote Eisenhower was the first President to ever have a televised press conference Dwight suffered both a heart attack and mild stroke during his presidency
