9 D5 Contest Planning Info
International Contest Speakers must have 6 CC speeches completed. Plan for speaker time of 5- 7 minutes per speech plus about 2 minutes per speaker Evaluation Contest Find: Test speaker – Speech time is 5-7 minutes Contestants leave room / prepare for 5 minutes Contestant Time is 1:30 to 3:30 plus time to bring into room

10 2016 District Contests INTERNATIONAL (with % scoring) - Contestant needs 6 CC speeches) % Speech Development - Structure, Organization, Support Material 20 Effectiveness - Achievement of Purpose, Interest, Reception 15 Speech Value - Ideas, Logic, Original Thought Physical - Appearance, Body Language, Speaking Area 10 Voice - Flexibility, Volume Manner - Directness, Assurance, Enthusiasm Appropriateness - To Speech Purpose And Audience Correctness - Grammar, Pronunciation, Word Selection (Winner can go to Regional and International Contests) EVALUATION (All TMs compete) Analytical Quality – Clear, focused Recommendations – Positive, Specific, Helpful 30 Technique – Sympathetic, Sensitive, Motivational 15 Summation – Concise, Encouraging (Contest Ends at District Level) Suggestions: Invite test speaker and judges from another area / division From Judges Guide for Scoring contests!

11 Requirements Plan and recruit early – Read TI Rulebook
Follow Rulebook for club contests Assign clear roles to all Pick appropriate location and time Can non-US citizens enter? Any other restrictions on food, opportunity drawing, etc.? Establish clear, specific agenda Allow time before and after contest check forms briefings record results schedule different start time for set-up, briefings, contestants, contest start.

12 Strongly Recommended Options
Develop detailed check lists for each Assignment (TM, Chief Judge, Timer, etc.) Develop detailed Checklist for equipment, food, forms, everything. Recruit Chief Judge early (go to Chief Judge Training Later Today) Use contest to build club interest. Invite other clubs, areas, divisions & community Invite Directors as dignitaries

Is the room too hot or too small? Outside room for Evaluation contestants? Enough judges from the right qualifications? Anyone sick? Are dues paid for Contestants & Club? Are contestants eligible? Enough food? Does everyone know what to do? – REALLY? Forgot forms; forms not sent to Area / division Certificates not ready? Can we print at facility? Toastmaster steals the show; Event runs slow
