To contribute materials that work well To showcase your materials To obtain feedback from colleagues To collaborate with colleagues

25 What can be uploaded on LORO?
Word documents PowerPoint presentations Elluminate whiteboards Photographs mp3 files video files URLs There is no maximum file size

26 Preparing an Elluminate file
Elluminate files (wbd) can only be opened in Elluminate To allow colleagues to pre-view an Elluminate resource on LORO, you need to upload a picture of this resource ( png) So you need to upload both a wbd and a png.

27 Preparing an Elluminate file
Start an Elluminate session. Create or upload the whiteboards you want to upload on LORO Save these whiteboards twice: as a wbd as a png (this is a picture of your resource) Your resource can now be uploaded on LORO

28 Uploading a resource Two possible routes: Your profile page

33 Acknowledging sources and choosing a licence
Add the creators and acknowledge your sources Choose between three licence options

34 Tags and viewing permissions
Enter one or more tags. This will help colleagues to find your resource. You have three choices: Keep this resource just for yourself Share with OU colleagues Share with everybody else

35 Licencing: option 1 Creative commons : Attribution, Non-commercial
If you choose this option, colleagues should : Have to include your name (attribution) Only use your resource for educational purposes (non-commercial))

36 Licencing: option 2 Creative commons : Attribution, Non-commercial- No derivative Works 3.0 If you choose this option, colleagues should : Have to include your name (attribution) Be able to use your resource for educational purposes (non-commercial) But they may not alter, transform, or build upon your work ( no derivative).

37 Licencing: option 3 Creative commons : Attribution, Non-commercial- Share Alike 3.0 If you choose this option, colleagues should : Have to include your name (attribution) Be able to use your resource for educational purposes (non-commercial) Be able to alter, transform, or build upon your work ( share alike), as long as they share it under the same license.

38 Finding suitable pictures

39 Using resources created by others
You can use texts, pictures and audio files produced by other authors as long as you have permission. You need to acknowledge your sources. When using pictures, it is important to check the licence and use only pictures whose authors allow use for educational purposes.

40 Locating suitable pictures
You can find suitable pictures from: Wikimedia Commons Flickr (the commons) Google images (advanced search, that can be modified, etc.)

41 Wikimedia Commons http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page
Enter a key word

42 Wikimedia commons ‘Wikimedia Commons is a media file repository making available public domain and freely-licensed educational media content (images, sound and video clips) to everyone…’ Files can be copied, used and modified Source and author(s) must be credited appropriately Copies/improvements must be released under the same freedom to others. The license conditions of each individual media file can be found on their description page.

43 I entered ‘pasta’ in the search box and found this picture

44 Below this picture, I can find all the information I need:
The name of the author (by following the link) The licence I will paste this picture on my materials and add the name of the author.

45 Collaborating with colleagues

46 An example of collaboration
This resource was originally uploaded by Anna Calvi. This is a resource I have uploaded to LORO. My friend has slightly simplified it and acknowledged me and the OU. 46

47 A colleague (who lives in Venice) created an exercise using the same technique.
She has then created an exercise using the same technique 47

48 …and another, using Google Earth.
…and another, using Google Earth…an idea I want to copy. 48
