Most people spend over 40 Years working for a living. In the early days, careers work focused on matching individuals to specific opportunities in education and work; Many people followed in family’s footsteps.
Today a career is a personal journey through choice!
That includes learning, work and career breaks both planned and unplanned.
Career choices are influenced by personal circumstances; personal aspirations and external forces; company reorganisation, new technology and retraining.

The purpose of careers education is to help young people develop the knowledge and skills they need to make successful choices, manage transitions and learning and move into work.

A Careers lesson, guest speaker or industry visit.
Integration- integrate a students career plans into your lesson (develop transferrable skills).
For those who are unsure, encourage them to look at their strengths , weaknesses and their enjoyments; are they practical? Do they mind the cold weather? Do they prefer their own company?
Not a subject Teacher? Ask the students what they plan on doing in the future and how are they going to achieve this - what grades do they need? What subject and what level of course?
