5 Examples Psychometrician
Key Areas of Responsibility: Plan and conduct the high level statistical analyses required for scoring, norming, and validating tests/instruments Specify the samples required to conduct the intended analyses Communicate results, and provide statistical consultation, to authors, coworkers, and customers as necessary Prepare psychometric results for technical manuals/reports, or for journal publication and presenting at conferences Review and learn new statistical techniques and software, and share this knowledge with coworkers and authors as necessary Develop quality assurance checks to assure that responses on tests/assessments are scored correctly

Qualifications & Skills: M.A. or Ph.D. in Psychology or related field (e.g., Educational Measurement) with graduate level courses in psychological research methods and statistics Advanced knowledge of classical test theory, item response theory, and advanced statistical techniques (e.g., Rasch models, 3PL models, differential item functioning, vertical scaling, test score equating) Extensive knowledge of statistical software (e.g., R, SPSS), word processors (e.g., MS Word), spreadsheet packages (e.g., MS Excel), and presentation software (e.g., MS Powerpoint) Strong writing, presentation, and language skills Ability to take initiative and work independently, as well as in a team environment

7 Examples Measurement Specialist
Education: Undergraduate degree in epidemiology, health policy, the social or health sciences, biostatistics, psychometrics or another relevant discipline. Master’s preferred. Experience: 2 years of relevant work experience required, 4 years, preferred Technical Skills: Excellent computer skills with statistical analysis programs (e.g. SAS), database (Access) and spreadsheet (Excel) and word processing (Word) programs. Key Competencies: Strong statistical and measurement knowledge, specifically related to measurement frameworks, data interpretation and methodology. A solid understanding of different types of data (survey, administrative, etc.) combined with some experience with statistical analysis of health data in at least one health care sector. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of stakeholders. Superior time management and organizational skills to produce timely and accurate results.

8 Some tips… An academic CV is not a resume
Resume usually 1-2 pages (at most 3) and includes only the experiences/skills/education required for the advertised position When presenting experiences/skills use this formula: Situation/Problem Action Result/Outcome

9 Some tips… What skills have I acquired as a graduate student? Are these transferrable skills? What skills have I not acquired as a graduate student? (e.g., communicating effectively with non-academics) Examples of transferrable skills: Problem-solving skills Effective communication skills Team-work Working independently Taking initiative Etc.
