Presentation to the West Valley Mission Community College District Board of Trustees February 7, 2017 Inge Bond, Mission College Miqueas Dial, West Valley College

2 Student Success Scorecard
Annual statewide report providing system-wide analysis of core descriptive and performance indicators Includes both system- and college-level outcomes The report is used for information and understanding; at this time it is not tied to any funding at the system or college level

3 Mission College: Profile

4 West Valley Profile

5 Levels of Preparation Overall: Student attempted any level of Math or English in the first three years College prepared: Student’s lowest course attempted in Math and/or English was college level Unprepared for college: Student’s lowest course attempted in Math and/or English was remedial level For this presentation we will look at single-year disaggregation by level of preparation, and at non-disaggregated trend data. Please note that 5 years of data, disaggregated both by trend and by demographics (ethnicity, age, and gender) can be found at:

6 Completion (Student Progress and Achievement Rate [SPAR])
Completion Rate: Percentage of degree and/or transfer-seeking students tracked for six years who completed a degree, certificate, or transfer-related outcome For each of the completion, persistence, and 30 units metrics, we will present the current year with disaggregation by level of preparation, and the state and college five-year trend

7 Completion Note that the table at the top shows the cohort size: reminder that this is a cohort-based measure – not all-student measure

8 Completion: Peer Group Data
Cohort Mission College Completion Peer Group Comparison Mission Peer Low Peer High Peer Avg Completion Rate 46.1% 33.5% 57.0% 46.4% Cohort West Valley College Completion Peer Group Comparison WVC Peer Low Peer High Peer Avg Completion Rate 55.4% 45.4% 64.9% 54.2% Explain external variables the lead to peer grouping

9 Persistence Persistence: Percentage of degree and/or transfer-seeking students tracked for six years who attempted any level of Math or English in the first three years and enrolled in the first three consecutive primary terms anywhere in the CCC system Same as the Completion cohort This metric is considered a milestone or momentum point, research shows that students with continuous enrollment are more likely to succeed. Fairly consistent across levels of preparation. What can we infer?

10 Persistence Note that the table at the top shows the cohort size: reminder that this is a cohort-based measure – not all-student measure Fairly stable These rates are fairly consistent with statewide figures. Reflects the challenge of goal attainment among students who arrive at the college unprepared.

11 30 Units 30 Units: Percentage of first-time students with a minimum of 6 units who attempted any level of Math or English and who earned at least 30 units within 6 years. Another momentum point

12 30 Units

13 Remedial English Remedial English: percentage of credit students tracked for six years who started 1 to 4 levels below transfer in English and completed a college-level course in that discipline

14 Remedial: English

15 Remedial Math Remedial Math: percentage of credit students tracked for six years who started 2 to 4 levels below transfer level in Math and completed a college-level course in that discipline

16 Remedial: Math

17 Remedial ESL Remedial ESL: percentage of credit students tracked for six years who started any levels below transfer level in ESL and completed a college-level course in ESL or English

18 Remedial: ESL MC: Goals of ESL students

19 Career Technical Education Completion
Career Technical Education: percentage of students tracked for six years who completed more than 8 units in courses classified as career technical education (vocational) in a single discipline and completed a degree, certificate, or transfer-related outcome. State does not disaggregate this metric by level of preparation
