ACADEMIC PROGRAM FOR KINDERGARTEN
Language Arts- The major milestones in kindergarten are mastering letters, letter sounds, sight words, reading and writing sentences, and comprehension skills. Math- Major milestones in kindergarten include number sense, counting to at least 100, identifying numbers 0-100, counting objects up to 30, representing numbers in different ways, sorting according to attributes, identifying 2-D and 3-D shapes, and adding and subtracting. Science/Health- The science curriculum covers science inquiry, life science, physical science, and earth science. Social Studies- The social studies curriculum will deepen students learning about themselves as well as the community and country they live in. They will learn about the purpose of national holidays, American symbols, good citizenship, goods and services, wants and needs, and their personal information (address including county, city, and state).

COMMON DAILY ROUTINES Morning work is given daily.
Students go to a special (PE, Music, or Technology) on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for 30 minutes. Subjects are taught in whole group then students move to small groups and a teacher station. Students have naps and recess daily.

GRADING POLICY We use rubrics to assess graded assignments.
Emoticons will be used such as a smile.

HOMEWORK POLICY Students will be given a homework calendar every Monday. Homework assignments are to be completed and turned in by Friday. Homework is assigned Monday-Thursday unless otherwise noted.

TESTING S.L.O – Beginning and end of year assessment to show academic growth I-Ready – Diagnostic computer-based test given three times a year GKIDS – On-going state level assessment to show progress on each standard Classroom assessments – to determine mastery of concepts taught

Flashcards Tracing sheets Read at least minutes each night with your child Manipulatives Websites: (student info will be sent home shortly)

SUPPLIES Small pillow (no mats or blankets) * 1 pack of dry erase markers Pencil pouch * 70- page spiral notebooks (2x) Red, green, and yellow plastic folders with pockets * 1 box Ziplock bags 1 box of tissue 1 big bottle of sanitizer 20 glue sticks 1 pack of white copy paper Pencils (4 packs) Larger erasers/cap erasers Crayons (4 packs) Scissors ( blunt end) 2 composition notebooks

VOLUNTEERS Everyone who wishes to volunteer at Deer Chase Elementary must attend a volunteer class provided throughout the year. You must have this volunteer class in order to get your volunteer card and be able to chaperone on field trips or volunteer in a class. Notices will be sent home to notify you of an upcoming volunteer class.

STUDENT AGENDAS We have been told our students will get student agendas. These will be sent home on Mondays and must be returned daily. There is a replacement fee if they are lost.
