WHO WE SERVE
Heather Burns was born September 27, She attended Oklahoma University, Langston University and earned her Associates Degree in Mass Communication from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College. She realized at an early age the self-enlightening process of education would be a key component to both her personal, professional and spiritual life. On January 24, 2009 Heather’ died from complications of Sickle Cell Anemia. Jesus warns us not to wait for more but to discover what we can do with what we already have. … “even a little goes a long way”. Heather’s prayer was for Jesus to help her grow more in faith by using the little she already had.
The Heather Burns Scholarship Fund is for students diagnosed with Sickle Cell Anemia Disease (individuals with Sickle Cell traits are not eligible), with life threatening diseases, and students with special needs and financial hardships. A 501c(3) nonprofit scholarship program, the HBMSF awards several scholarships annually, providing financial assistance to eligible high school and/or freshmen students seeking to further their education in Oklahoma. Based on availability of funds, students in Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, and Texas are considered.
In September 2010, a group of friends, relatives and family members came together to form the Memorial Scholarship Fund. The fund honors Heather's love of God, Christian principles, stewardship, and testimonial for higher education; acknowledging and celebrating the faith, commitment, belief, and determination she used to achieve her educational goal
