2 Chromebook Camp 2016 Teachers - Save this file to your computer desktop before attempting to show it to students. Lead students through Sections 1-4 during Chromebook distribution.

3 Chromebook Camp 2016 This presentation is designed to help students understand digital responsibilities and connect to digital tools. Teachers, please assist students as they complete steps in each section. If students encounter a problem, please ensure students are typing the correct login information.

Checking Your Corners Periodically you should check your Chromebook corners for damage. If you find damage, turn in a Work Order. Put the date you discovered the damage and describe the possible accident that could have caused the damage. Using Your Chromebook Slide 2 of 15

Placing the Chromebook in the Case You MUST keep the Chromebook in the case when travelling between classes or to and from school. Using Your Chromebook Slide 3 of 15

Opening Your Chromebook Lift the front lid of your Chromebook. Press the black button on the right hand side to power it on. Using Your Chromebook Slide 4 of 15

Turning the Chromebook Screen Your Chromebook can fold into tablet mode. Be careful when folding your Chromebook into tablet mode so that you do not damage the screen. It is a very expensive item to replace. Using Your Chromebook Slide 5 of 15

Logging in to Your Chromebook Your teacher has your username. It looks something like: Username: Your password is capital S + your student ID + capital X. Password: S123456X (but with your ID number) Using Your Chromebook Slide 6 of 15

Logging in to Your Chromebook If you used Google in Klein last year, your account is still there. Wait patiently for a few minutes as new classmates sign in to their Google accounts. Using Your Chromebook Slide 7 of 15

Logging in to Your Chromebook If you are new to Klein this year, you have a new Google account. You will see a Welcome to your new account message. Read the message. Click I accept. Continue to my account. Using Your Chromebook Slide 8 of 15

Everyone Sets a Google Password Now it’s time to set your Google password. It is smart to set your Google password the same as your network password. Your password should be at least 8 characters long and include: One UPPER CASE LETTER One lower case letter One number (1-0 on top keyboard row) One special character like # $ % ^ & * ( ) Click Change Password to save. Check Your Battery Your Chromebook is not fully charged. Once logged in you will be able to check your battery. Click on the battery icon in the notification area on the bottom right part of your screen. If you lose battery power during this period, a few students at a time can take turns plugging in. Charging Your Chromebook Plug your power supply into the back of the Chromebook every night in order to have a fully charged computer for the next school day. Do not charge your Chromebook while it is closed inside of the case or your backpack. Using Your Chromebook Slide 11 of 15

Five Day Rule As soon as you know there is something wrong with your Chromebook, turn in a work order. If your Chromebook has gone missing or is lost or stolen, go to the Repair Center and report it. You MUST turn in a work order within FIVE days of the accident or malfunction. Failure to do so may result in you having to pay for the repair. Chrome Follows You Home… District filters monitor your traffic on your Chromebook and anytime you use your Klein Google account on a computer whether at school or away. Be sure to always use your Chromebook for school purposes only. Be sure to sign out of your Chromebook when you finish working. Be sure to sign out of your Klein Google account whenever you use it on any other computer. Using Your Chromebook Slide 15 of 15

Return your Chromebook fully charged every day to school. Carry your Chromebook in the case at all times. Do not loan your Chromebook to anyone. This is YOUR learning tool. You may NOT play games or load or download any software, music, or pictures on the Chromebook unless instructed by a teacher to do so. It is your responsibility to bring your Chromebook to school everyday. Student Responsibilities Slide 1 of 6

Do not place food or liquids near your Chromebook. Do not place stickers, skins, or other adhesive objects on your Chromebook. Never leave your Chromebook unattended in school or in a vehicle. Chromebooks are NOT to be used on Klein buses. Take care of your Chromebook! Use your Google Drive appropriately to save all of your files. Student Responsibilities Slide 2 of 6

Student Discipline (Major): some (not all) are listed Possession of inappropriate material Based on the severity of the offense, this consequence could range from ISS to DAEP to expulsion. Address per campus procedures – DAEP placement for subsequent infractions. Possible expulsion and/or criminal charges if determined to be illegally inappropriate. Distribution of inappropriate materials – DAEP placement Intentional damage to Chromebook Consult KISD police for amount and possible restitution and/or criminal charges to be filed. Could range from ISS to DAEP placement or possible expulsion. Charges can reach State Jail Felony for destruction of school property. Online Work Order All repair requests will be completed online. You can access the Work Order Request system while you are on campus. You will not be able to submit a Work Order Request from home. Work Order Request System Slide 1 of 9

Online Work Order You can turn in a Work Order Request on any computer – your Chromebook, the computers in the classroom, the library computers, etc. A Work Order Request does NOT have to be completed on your personal Chromebook. The Work Order Request (WOR) is an online form, so it does require an internet connection. Work Order Request System Slide 2 of 9

Describe Your Problem You will get different screens depending on which column you select. Please explain what happened and what is wrong with your Chromebook in detail. Submitted! After clicking save, you will get a message that you have successfully updated the form. Click OK. After clicking OK, you will be logged out of the Work Order Request System and return to StudentNet. Work Order Request System Slide 7 of 9

What Next? Take your Chromebook to the repair center during the designated times on your campus. When you get there, the repair center will make sure your Work Order Request is complete. 44 Chromebook Touchpad To move the pointer, move your finger on the touchpad. To click, press down on the lower half of the touchpad. To right-click, click the touchpad with 2 fingers. To scroll, place 2 fingers on the touchpad and move up and down. To swipe, quickly move 2 fingers to the left or right on the touchpad. To drag and drop, click the item with 1 finger. Click on the “New” button to create something (folders, docs, sheets, slides) in your drive. Right click on a file or a folder to share or add something to your drive (if someone share a doc with you). You can also make a copy of a file to make your own personal edits. You can also delete the file by right clicking. The lowercase “i” will show you your activity in Drive. The gear next to the “i” is your settings and can show you popular keyboard shortcuts. 58 Drive Your turn! Bookmark Google Drive.
Create a folder in your drive, and name it according to your grade this year. 6th Grade 7th Grade 8th Grade Double-click on the folder you just created to open it. Once inside this folder, create a new folder for each of your classes. Only create a folder for your grade. You do not need to create a 6th, 7th, and 8th grade folder. Drive Slide 4 of 8

59 Drive The folder you just created will help you stay organized throughout the year. When you create something for a class, open the folder for that class, and click the Create button. Turning in Work: Click the blue Share button to share it with your teacher, OR turn it in though Google Classroom. Important Note: Do not change or rename the folder in your Drive named Classroom. 60 Turn on Google Drive Offline
To save your Google Drive documents for offline use: Open Google Drive. Click the Settings icon in the upper right corner. In the Offline area, check the box for Sync Google Docs, Sheets, Slides & Drawings files to this computer so that you can edit offline. Drive Slide 6 of 8
