You can convert ANY fraction to a decimal by dividing the numerator BY the denominator.
Here are some more examples: 3/5 = 5 3 = 0.6 Where 3 is the numerator and 5 is the denominator. 2/9 = 9 2 = Where 2 is the numerator and 9 is the © All Rights Reserved.
12
Did you notice how the answer kept going on and on in 2/9 being turned into a decimal?
2/9 = 9 2 = When that happens, round up or down, depending on the answer in the thousandth’s place In this case, the number in the thousandth’s place is a 2. When a number is LESS than 5, it is rounded down. So .222 will be simplified to .22. © All Rights Reserved.
13
What happens when the number in the thousandth’s place is 5 or greater?
5/8 = 8 5 5/8 = .625 Look at the number in the thousandth’s place. It is 5 or greater When a number is 5 or greater you round up to the next number. So .625 is rounded to .63. © All Rights Reserved.
