Aims of the Galton Institute
The Galton Institute promotes and supports the scientific exploration of all aspects of human heredity through: Education and communication with all interested individuals and groups. Stimulating and informing public debate on the social and ethical implications and relevance to human well-being. The study and understanding of the historical origins and development. Galton Institute Activities
Offers financial support for conferences and workshops of kindred organisations. Supports young researchers by awarding travel and other grants. Publishes ‘The Galton Review’ three times a year. Publication of occasional booklets on subjects relevant to its aims. Awards prizes for 6th form essays. Holds an annual conference in November at the Royal Society.

Pioneer of Science Galton produced over 340 papers and books
He created the statistical concepts of correlation and standard deviation, and widely promoted regression toward the mean He was the first to apply statistical methods to the study of human differences and inheritance of intelligence He introduced the use of questionnaires and surveys for collecting data on human communities He pioneered biometrics for studying human populations and invented fingerprinting as a means of identification

Joining the Galton Institute
Membership of the Galton Institute is open to all who share the Institute’s aims. New members are admitted as life Members or Fellows, depending on qualifications. Life membership costs a one-off payment of £50. Apply on our website. Council reviews applications in March, June & November.
