God’s Essence Eternal Life
We have already seen that God is Sovereign. He rules the heavens and the earth; His Word is law and must be obeyed. Disobeying God is sin. God is also Righteous. In His perfect goodness, He cannot stand sin; in His Justice, God must punish sin. Who took the punishment for us and was judged for all our sin? (Jesus Christ) None of us deserved this. We are only saved by God’s grace. Next we have learned that God is Love and by grace shared his Perfect Love for us by sending His Perfect Son, Jesus Christ to take and bear the sins of all mankind on the Cross. Remember that Grace is God doing something for us which we cannot earn, do for ourselves, and do not deserve. Eternal Life is the next attribute of God’s Essence we will learn about. This page is the introduction to God’s attribute of Eternal Life. God's Essence

God’s Essence Eternal Life
God is Eternal Life and He Does Not Have a Beginning or an End Psalm 93:2 (NASB95) 2Your throne is established from of old; You are from everlasting. Exodus 3:14a (NASB95) 14God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM”; Deuteronomy 32:40 (NASB95) 40‘Indeed, I lift up My hand to heaven, And say, as I live forever, Memory Verse Psalm 90:2c (NASB95) 2c “Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.” God does not have a beginning or end. He has always existed and He will always exist. These verses tell us that God is everlasting and lives forever. God tells Moses in Exodus 3:14a “I AM WHO I AM” or in the Hebrew, I WILL BECOME WHO I WILL BECOME. I AM means that He always was and will always exist. Psalm 90:2c is your memory verse. God's Essence

Deuteronomy 32:40b 40bAnd say, as I live forever, Man is like a straight line. He has a beginning, birth and an end, death (Physical). Heb. 9:27 tell us that it is appointed, or fixed that man will die once. God unlike man is like a circle that has no beginning or end. These verses tell us that God had no beginning or no end. He has always existed and will always exist. End (Death) God's Essence

God’s Essence Eternal Life Jehovah (The Existing One), Who Reveals Himself, Promises All Who Accept Jesus Christ as Their Savior (Believers) Will Have Eternal Life John 10:27–28 (NASB95) 27“My sheep (Believers) hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; 28and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. John 8:51 (NASB95) 51“Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone keeps My word he will never see death.” John 3:15–16 (NASB95) 15so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life. 16“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. 1 John 5:11 (NASB95) 11And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. Jehovah is a name for God, which means “The Existing One”. He has always existed. He promises all who believe and accept Jesus Christ as their savior will have Eternal Life. John 10:27-28 Here Jesus the God-Man is saying that sheep (believers) know Him and follow him and He gives them Eternal Life and they will never perish. In the rest of these verses Jesus tells us that believers will have eternal life. God's Essence

God’s Essence Eternal Life Jesus Christ Warns Unbelievers That They “shall go away into eternal punishment” Matthew 25:46a (NASB95) 46a“These will go away into eternal punishment, John 8:24 (NASB95) 24“Therefore I said to you that you (Unbelievers) will die in your sins for unless you believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.” Matthew 25:41 (NASB95) 41 “Then He will also say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, accursed ones (unbelievers), into the eternal fire (lake of fire) which has been prepared for the devil and his angels; In these verses, Jesus, the God-Man, is warning Unbelievers that they will go away into eternal punishment, that they will die in their sins, and will end up in the Lake of Fire. Matthew In this verse, Jesus is telling unbelievers that they will end up in the eternal fire (Lake of Fire), which has been prepared for the devil and his angels”. Based on Matthew 25:41, the Lake of Fire does exist, but we don’t know where it is located. God's Essence

Fallen Angels (Demons)
God’s Essence Eternal Life Lake of Fire Hell Unbelievers Satan Fallen Angels (Demons) Antichrist False Prophet John 3:16 (NASB95) 16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. Heaven God Jesus Elect Angels Believers Matthew 7:13–14 (NASB95) 13 “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. 14 “For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it. We have seen and discussed this chart many times. Believers will end up in Heaven and spend in eternity there, with God, Jesus and the elect (good angels). Unbelievers on the other hand when they die will eventually end up in the Lake of Fire, that has been prepared for the devil (Satan), fallen angels (demons), the Antichrist and the False Prophet. Unbelievers will spend an eternity in the Lake of Fire. Jesus is telling us in Matthew 7:13-14 that most people (unbelievers) will not believe in Him (‘the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it”). “For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life (believers), and there are few who find it”. Luke 16:19–31 (NASB95) 19“Now there was a rich man, and he habitually dressed in purple and fine linen, joyously living in splendor every day. 20“And a poor man named Lazarus was laid at his gate, covered with sores, 21and longing to be fed with the crumbs which were falling from the rich man’s table; besides, even the dogs were coming and licking his sores. 22“Now the poor man died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham’s bosom; and the rich man also died and was buried. 23“In Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and saw Abraham far away and Lazarus in his bosom. 24“And he cried out and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus so that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool off my tongue, for I am in agony in this flame.’ 25“But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that during your life you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus bad things; but now he is being comforted here, and you are in agony. 26‘And besides all this, between us and you there is a great chasm fixed, so that those who wish to come over from here to you will not be able, and that none may cross over from there to us.’ 27“And he said, ‘Then I beg you, father, that you send him to my father’s house— 28for I have five brothers—in order that he may warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’ 29“But Abraham said, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.’ 30“But he said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent!’ 31“But he said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.’ ” Read these verses together and emphasize the parts that are underlined. These verses are a story that Jesus told. It is not a parable because parables do not name people. This is an actual story that took place. This story gives us a look into what happens when both believers and unbelievers die. God's Essence

The lower part/heart of the Earth
God’s Essence Hades Prior to The Resurrection Of Christ Luke 16:19-31 The Earth Abrahams Bosom Paradise Believers “a great chasm fixed” Hades/Sheol Place of Torment Unbelievers This page is explained by the story of “rich man and Lazarus, which Jesus told in Luke 16:19-31. Hades/Sheol is located in the lower part of the earth. This what happens to people (unbelievers and believers)) when they died before the resurrection of Christ. This includes all souls prior or before the resurrection of Christ. Unbelievers and Believers bodies all went to the grave. Their souls all went to Hades / Sheol (this is a word that is used in the OT for hades). All Believers souls went to the “Abrahams Bosom (Paradise)” compartment. Unbelievers souls went to the “place of torment”. This is a compartment below the compartment of the Paradise, it was hot and tormenting. The unbelievers could see into the Paradise compartment, but could not go to it, because there was a great chasm or gulf fixed, a large space separating the two compartments. Below the place of torment for unbelievers, there is another compartment called “Tartarus” which is where the fallen angels in Genesis 6, who infiltrated the human race before the great flood are, in pits of darkness awaiting their judgment. The lower part/heart of the Earth 2 Peter 2:4 Tartarus Fallen Angels of Gen. 6 “pits of darkness” God's Essence

The lower part/heart of the Earth
God’s Essence Heaven Hades After The Resurrection Of Christ Believers The Earth Luke 16:19-31 Christ took Believers to Heaven Eph. 4:8-9 Ps.68:18 “a great chasm fixed” Hades/Sheol Place of Torment Unbelievers This page shows us that Jesus Christ went down into Hades after His Resurrection and took the believers souls from the Paradise compartment of hades and brought them to heaven. The unbelievers were left in Hades in the place of torment, compartment. As before, when believers and unbelievers die their bodies all go into the grave. Ephesians 4:8–9 (NASB95) 8Therefore it says, “When He ascended on high, He led captive a host of captives, And He gave gifts to men.” 9(Now this expression, “He ascended,” what does it mean except that He also had descended into the lower parts of the earth? Psalm 68:18 (NASB95) 18You have ascended on high, You have led captive Your captives; You have received gifts among men, Even among the rebellious also, that the Lord God may dwell there. When unbelievers die now, their souls immediately go to Hades, the lower part of the earth as before the resurrection of Christ, the place of torment. All unbelievers souls will be united with their resurrection bodies and judged at the Great White throne judgment. They will then be thrown into the Lake of Fire, and be tormented forever and forever. Now when believers (Church age) die their souls will immediately go to Heaven and at the rapture, their souls will be united with their resurrection bodies and will they will go to heaven. The lower part/heart of the Earth 2 Peter 2:4 Tartarus Fallen Angels of Gen. 6 “pits of darkness” God's Essence

8Therefore it says, “When He ascended on high, He led captive a host of captives (souls of believers), And He gave gifts to men.” 9(Now this expression, “He ascended,” what does it mean except that He also had descended into the lower parts of the earth? Psalm 68:18 (NASB95) 18You have ascended on high, You have led captive Your captives; You have received gifts among men, Even among the rebellious also, that the Lord God may dwell there. These verses tell us that after Jesus was resurrected, he went into Hades “lower part of the earth” and that He took all the souls of the believers in the Paradise compartment with him to heaven. So then the Paradise compartment was emptied. Psalm 68:18 is a prophesy of this. Matthew 12:40 (NASB95) 40for just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the sea monster, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. What Do We Learn From the Story of the Rich Man and Lazarus?
Luke 16:19-31 The Rich Man was an unbeliever and Lazarus was a believer Lazarus died and was escorted by an angels to the Paradise compartment in Hades, when we die, we will probably be escorted to heaven by angels. The rich man died and found himself in Hades “in torment” The rich man saw Abraham and Lazarus in Paradise at a distance The rich man was in torment and asked Abraham to send the poor man with water on his finger to cool him off. The rich man was “in agony in this flame”, we may have some sort of a pre-resurrection or temporary body. Lazarus was being comforted in Paradise and the rich man was in agony There is a large fixed space between the Paradise compartment and the “place of torment” which no one can cross over. The rich man asked Abraham if he would send Lazarus to his 5 brothers so that they might not also come to the place of torment. Abraham said that they have Moses and the prophets (The Scriptures), and let them hear The rich man said that if someone would go to them from the dead, they would repent (change their minds). Abraham said that if his brothers did not listen to Moses and the Prophet (the Scriptures) they would not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead. Jesus arose from the dead and many people in His day and throughout the ages did not repent and believe in Him. Review this page—see if he has any questions. God's Essence

1In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
God’s Essence Eternal Life The Eternal Life of God Genesis 1:1 (NASB95) 1In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. John 1:1 (NASB95) 1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 8:58 (NASB95) 58Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.” Jeremiah 10:10a (NASB95) 10aBut the Lord is the true God; He is the living God and the everlasting King. These verses explain that God has always existed. Genesis 1:1 says that “ In the beginning, before there was anything, God created the heavens and earth”. John 1:1 tells us that “In the beginning was the Word” The Word is the second person of the God Head, God the Son. He was there before the beginning. In John 8:58 Jesus tells us that He was before (existed before Abraham), Abraham was born more that 2000 years before Jesus, but God the Son has always existed. The I am means that he has always existed and always will exist. Jeremiah 10:10a tells us that God is a the true God, a living God and an everlasting King. God's Essence

Colossians 1:17 tells us that God the Son is before (existed before) all things (before anything was created.) Also that God the Son holds all things together. The earth, heavens, seas, etc. 1 Timothy 1:17a tells us that God is eternal (endless), immortal (everlasting) and invisible (because He is a Spirit). God's Essence

Psalm 135:13 (NASB95) 13Your name, O Lord, is everlasting, Your remembrance, O Lord, throughout all generations. Psalm 102:12 (NASB95) 12But You, O Lord, abide forever, And Your name to all generations. Revelation 4:8–9 (NASB95) 8And the four living creatures, each one of them having six wings, are full of eyes around and within; and day and night they do not cease to say, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty, who was and who is and who is to come.” 9And when the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, to Him who lives forever and ever, Psalm 135:13 tells us that the Lord is everlasting and will be remembered throughout all generations into the future. Psalm 102:12 tells us that the Lord, God abides forever, lives forever. Revelation 4:8-9 tells us that God will live forever and ever in the eternity future. God's Essence

God’s Essence Eternal Life
Moses and The Burning Bush We will now start the story of Moses when he encountered the Burning Bush. Moses, an Israelite (Hebrew), was born during the Israeli captivity in Egypt approx BC. The Israelis at that time were slaves in Egypt. As a baby, he was put and hid in a basket by the Nile river because the King of Egypt, Pharaoh gave an order to kill all of the new born, Israeli (Hebrew) children (boys) in Egypt. Pharaoh’s daughter found him by the Nile river and raised him in the Egyptian court. After he grew up, he was out looking at the Israeli slaves being mistreated by their Egyptian taskmasters and killed one of the taskmasters (Ex. 2:.11-12). He then fled away out of Egypt to the wilderness and became a shepherd tending his father-in-laws sheep. After being a shepherd for many years, he then had the encounter with the burning bush in the wilderness. God's Essence

Moses and The Burning Bush Exodus 3:1–6 (NASB95) 1Now Moses was pasturing the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian; and he led the flock to the west side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. 2The angel of the Lord appeared to him in a blazing fire from the midst of a bush; and he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, yet the bush was not consumed. 3So Moses said, “I must turn aside now and see this marvelous sight, why the bush is not burned up.” 4When the Lord saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.” 5Then He said, “Do not come near here; remove your sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.” 6He said also, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” Then Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God. Exodus 3:6a (NASB95) 6aHe said also, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” What Did God Mean When He Said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.”? Abraham, Isaac and Jacob Had Died Many Years Ago before Moses was born Abraham’s Body Had Died, but His Soul and Spirt Were Still Living (Luke 16:22-23) God Had Given Abraham Everlasting Life as a Believer God is Still His God, Just as He Was When He Lived on The Earth. (Matthew 22:32) Abraham Had a Beginning, But Because He Had Everlasting Life, His Life Would Have No Ending. The Eternal Life for Believers is Like God’s Eternal Life But is Different The Eternal Life of Believers is An Everlasting Life, Because It Has a Beginning at Birth, But Has No End The Eternal Life of God Had No Beginning And Has No End. Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were what we call the patriarchs or fathers of the Jewish or Hebrew Faith. God talked to Abraham first and made covenants or promises to him about his descendants, the land they would have and the blessings for them. Isaac was Abraham’s son and Jacob was Isaac’s son. Abraham died many years before Moses was born as was Isaac and Jacob. Their bodies died but their souls and spirits were still living as we have seen that Abraham was in Hades with Lazarus. Their souls and spirits were there. God had given them Everlasting life. Their lives would have no ending. God did not say “I was the God of your father, the God of Abraham…” God said “ I am…” God is still the God of them (souls and spirits). God is still their God just as He was when they lived on planet earth. Matt. 22:32 Their lives had a beginning, birth but because they have everlasting life, their lives will have do end. The eternal life of believers is Like God’s eternal life, but is different The eternal life of believers is an everlasting life, because it did have a beginning at birth, but has no end. The eternal life of God had no beginning and has no end. God's Essence

In Matthew 22:32 we see that God is not the God of the dead but of the living. Even though Abraham’s body is dead, God is still the God of his living soul and spirit. John 8:53 (NASB95) 53“Surely You are not greater than our father Abraham, who died? The prophets died too; whom do You make Yourself out to be?” They Asked Jesus, “Are you greater than Abraham” and Who Are You? In the above verses, Jesus is talking with the Pharisees (Jewish religious leaders) and with the Jews in general. In John 8:24b, Jesus is telling the Pharisees that He is God (I AM HE) and that if you don’t believe in Him they will die in their sins (end up in The Lake of Fire). Jesus is telling the Jews in John 8:51, that if they keep His Word (become believers), they will never see death (spiritual death) but have everlasting Life. In John 8:53, The Jews are asking Jesus if He is greater than Abraham who has died and who is He. God's Essence

The Eternal Life of God the Son Before Abraham Was, I AM
God’s Essence Eternal Life The Eternal Life of God the Son Before Abraham Was, I AM John 8:56 (NASB95) 56“Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad.” Jesus Said That “Abraham was happy when he found out that I would come” John 8:57 (NASB95) 57So the Jews said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?” The Jew’s were asking Jesus how He could have seen Abraham as he had died almost 2000 years before and Jesus was not even fifty years old. John 8:58 (NASB95) 58Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.” (I always existed) Remember at the burning bush, when God the Son told Moses “I AM? Jesus, God the Son, and God the Father have always existed as “I AM. In John 8:56, Jesus is saying that Abraham rejoiced to see the Messiah, Jesus, that He would come. In John 8:57, the Jews were asking Him how did he see Abraham as Jesus was not yet 50 years old and Abraham had died approximately 2000 years before that. In John 8:58 Jesus is saying that existed as God the Son before Abraham was born. By saying that I AM, means that he always existed with God the Father as God the Son. Remember, that God the Son, told Moses from the burning bush that I AM. God the Son appeared from the burning bush as the Angel of the Lord. God's Essence

God’s Essence Eternal Life
Revelation 21:1–5 (NASB95) 1Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. 2And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband. 3And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them, 4and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.” 5And He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” And He said, “Write, for these words are faithful and true.” Read and explain these verses. In Verse 5, God is saying that He is making all things new. And God says to the apostle John to write, for these words are faithful and true. When we read these words, we should realize that God is telling us when we read these words that they are faithful and True and that we should believe them because God tells us that they are true.
