A Level History - Summer Project on Nationalism, Dictatorship and Democracy in C20th Europe
Paper 1 – Germany and West Germany, 1918 – 1989 The following events are key turning points in Germany’s history. Research and write a short paragraph focusing on the significance of each one: 11 November 1918 – Armistice 19 January 1919 – First Weimar Republic Elections 28 June 1919 – Treaty of Versailles signed 31 July 1919 – Weimar Constitution passed 14 September 1930 – 107 Nazis elected to the Reichstag 30 January 1933 – Hitler becomes Chancellor of Germany 24 March 1933 – Enabling Act passed 30 June 1934 – Night of the Long Knives 2 August 1934 – Hindenburg dies. Hitler becomes Fuhrer. 7 May 1945 – End of WW2 in Europe. Germany and Berlin divided into zones. May 1949 – FRG set up 7 October 1949 – GDR set up August 1961 – Berlin Wall goes up 9 November 1989 – Fall of Berlin Wall Your work could be presented as a timeline or as notes and must be handed in to Jayne Robson at the start of Term 1. Paper 2 - The Rise and Fall of Fascism in Italy c Produce a research project that examines the background to the Italian fascism course. Include the following points: The Roman Empire (You could watch Mary Beard’s excellent documentary series ‘Ultimate Rome’) The Unification of Italy Risorgimento - Italy rising again Irredentism The Liberal State Your work should be presented neatly and should be 2-3 sides of A4. Please hand in to Cassy Saletes at the start of Term 1.
