SUBJECT (Week 1) Date: 16 to 19 Aug 2016 Room 111 – W. Martin MATH 6A – PER 2 & 5 SCIENCE/HEALTH – PER 4 & 6 B-Read Math Triumphs Math Intervention Period 3 DO NOW ACTIVITY Prepare Student Introductions Write down you name, the school you come from, what you like to do, what is your best subject and why. Introduce yourself to your shoulder partner and then to your team. Write down and share the most interesting thing you did at your elementary school. OBJECTIVE/ LANGUAGE OBJECTIVE Students will use their common language to express their personal characteristics in a social setting. Students will use Kagan strategies to develop teamwork and to improve their language skills. They will use these skills to promote safe conduct in a lab. Students will review the Math Triumphs work book 2A and write down words they do not understand in Chapter 1. STANDARDS Students will form a Restorative Circle and share their school experiences and skills to their new classmates. Students will organize their teams with a Coach, Recorder, Material Manager and Quiet Captain and discuss these roles and how it promotes teamwork. Students must be able to use a dictionary to fine the definition of words they are not familiar with. They must use the new word in a sentence and share with others. ESSENTIAL QUESTION What would you like to learn most in your new Math class? What would you like to learn most in your new Science class? Why is it important to be able to express yourself clearly to other people? HOMEWORK Study your Times Tables from 1 x 1 to 12 x 12. Study the Lab Safety section in your Science book. Copy and answer the Scavenger Hunt exercise on page 1 in your Math Triumphs work book. TEST The teacher will select 10 times table problems from your chart and you must solve all ten correctly. You will take a Lab Safety test and must pass all ten questions to be eligible to work in our school Science lab. Your test are the 10 questions in the Math Triumphs Scavenger Hunt activity. SPECIAL EVENTS We will Student Introductions, Intro to Kagan Activities, Intro to Restorative Justice Practices, Make Student Folders, and Learn how to do Breakfast in the classroom. We will take a tour of the School campus, learn how to line up outside the classroom, review emergency procedures, make seating chart, look at the Science Lab. We will look at My Data, Brain Pop, look at Math Triumphs workbooks, review classroom rules and procedures.
